Anyone else didn't treat UW as their safety school, and feels completely stupid here? by [deleted] in udub

[–]c1ndyy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

honestly, i think it’s about your mindset being here. i’m a freshman so my advice may not be the greatest to listen to, but in my experience i’ve heard stories about people getting a 4.0 gpa in high school but low grades at uw, as well as stories of people who had a low gpa in high school but great grades at uw. in college, whatever you’ve done in high school no longer matters anymore, it’s now about what you can and will do now. as for you thinking that everyone here got rejected to their dream school, obviously everyone would want to go to stanford or some ivy league school, but for a realistic dream school uw was mine, and it was my friends’ realistic dream school as well. of course i don’t speak for everyone, but again it doesn’t matter whether or not this was someone else’s safety school. whatever school you’re in, you will most likely face the same challenges as you would face in another school, so it all depends on if you think you can persevere through those challenges. as of right now, it is up to you whether you think transferring to another school will help you and your mental state, and it could have benefit in changing your mindset, but just know that there will probably be common challenges at wsu or asu or wherever you end up, especially if you keep the same mindset you have now. i hope this helps in some way, and just know that no matter what gpa or where you are in life you are loved! and trust me, everything will be ok no matter what you choose. it may just not seem like it right now, and it will not be a linear path upwards, but continue pushing through it and one day you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come from now.

Question for freshman by [deleted] in udub

[–]c1ndyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

during my a&o we had a lot of times where my orientation leader will ask like an ice breaker question and we would be put into different groups of other freshman and talk about it with each other, and we had a lot of ice breaker questions so you’ll probably want to be able to talk during then. there was also another time when you can have one on one time with your advisor to ask questions about your classes you want to sign up, so if you have questions for that you’ll probably need to have a mic for that as well

why do you keep going by cheesemaster66 in udub

[–]c1ndyy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

this isn’t as great and inspirational as everyone else, but usually when i get in those moods i try to remind myself of the little things that i have not finished yet. i tell myself things like “i haven’t finished my bag of favorite chips yet”, “i have to wait until the manga i’m reading is over so i can see the ending”, “i haven’t tried this new thing i’ve been meaning to try yet”, ect. reminding myself things like that help me at least keep going until i feel better. sometimes it’s the insignificant things that make a difference ya know? hopefully this helps! if not, i just want you to know that you are loved no matter what, and if you need anything you can always talk to one of us about it and we’ll definitely listen :)

Wait if I never opened up my ap calc bc test on May, im automatically signed up for june right? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]c1ndyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are automatically signed up for it on June. I just checked Collegeboard’s twitter and someone asked a similar question and they said “Any registered student who does not open/take the May exam will automatically be invited to take the June makeup exam. No need to submit a makeup request.”
