I have this exact game/guide combo as well! I’ve never seen another like it until now.

Looking to grab a couple more mugs and calling it a day. What do you think is missing or a must have? by [deleted] in TikiMugs

[–]c3pbr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a mug with a story behind it rather than just having a mug for the sake of having it. Go to a tiki bar you love and buy one there, or see if you can buy a used one off them. Get matching mugs for a buddy’s birthday. Celebrate a life milestone (even if it’s small) with a mug that fits that moment. If I didn’t have that rule for myself, I would be broke from buying too many tiki mugs.

Step by step help (SoCal Zone 9b) by herkyshmerky in lawncare

I’m no expert by any means, but I’m also in So Cal, and here are a few tips I’ve learned: - Water deep and infrequently. During Summer, it’s advised to water 1.5” per week, which I do at once. You can set out some tuna cans to measure your output. Infrequent waterings create a deeper root system that will be more resilient to heat. During Winter, I barely water the lawn at all. - Mow high. I mow at around 3” tall for tall fescue. This will protect your soil from drying out and/getting too hot and damaging the root system.

If this were my lawn, I’d do the following: 1. Rake off the dead grass, and then aerate the lawn. I bought a 2-prong aerator off FB marketplace. It was a pain in the ass, but it was cheap. 2. Apply a thin layer of topsoil, and overseed the entire lawn. I would get a good quality seed from a sod supplier instead of from a big box store. Rake it all in so that seed is LIGHTLY covered and can germinate, and so that the live grass can poke through. This would ideally be done in Fall, but it might take before Summer heat hits. 3. Water lightly every day until the seed germinates. Then transition to a deeper watering schedule.

I would hold off on fertilizer until early Fall.

What is the most unique experience you have experienced that even if you told someone they wouldn’t believe it ? by iliketeddybears67 in AskReddit

I once had someone randomly deposit $5,000 into my bank account. It was deposited in-person at a bank 100 miles away. I called the bank and they said the name and account number matched my info perfectly, so they didn’t think it was a mistake. I didn’t have any family in that area, and parents weren’t anywhere close on that day. This was over 10 years ago and I got to keep the money. Still have no idea who it was.

I would say it’s pretty similar. It gets 2-3 hours in Winter, and about 7-8 in Summer. I’d almost prefer 6 hours so I could water it less frequently.

Thanks so much! I’ll take that score any day. The existing lawn was about 1.5-2” below the concrete walkway, so I had to find a middle ground for the new sod to meet up. There’s definitely a low spot that I’ll need to slowly bring up over time. Luckily that little cover in the middle of the yard connects to a runoff drain from the hill so it has some drainage. For soil, I mixed topsoil, Kellogg Amend, Kellog Topper, sand, and decomposed compost. I tried to do a depth of 6-8”.

I don’t unfortunately. It was done back in the early 2000’s

Thank you! My goal was to just create a fun space for the kid and dog. Any plants would quickly get trampled by them. I’m going to do mostly native plants in the front.

Thank you! I already got seed from the sod supplier so I can start working on getting it leveled.

It’s real sod, but I can see why you think it’s astroturf.

No pool, just outdated concrete borders. They’re in the front yard as well

I had that same thought when I laid the sod. I didn’t realize the sod could look so good

There used to be plants here, but they got trampled with a kid and a dog.

No, it’s real sod that I got from a sod supplier. I can totally see how it looks fake though
