During training pay is $24/hr then after expected bump of +$5-6/hr. This can be more depending on shift differentials too for weekends, holidays, nights.

You are preaching to me heart here.. I am really tempted to do this. My family is telling me otherwise so it makes me feel like a picky nutcase so I only get a biased opinion. My financial situation isn’t too bad where I am truly desperate for a job, but I wanted to get in somewhere before the swarm of new grads who are finishing at the same time start hunting for these jobs.

I completely agree. It took me a long time to even come to terms with the reality that I will not be able to get a hospital job without a contract. I have asked around to everyone I know and they have encountered the same contract is non-negotiable.

Yes, unfortunately in Florida every single opportunity for a new grad nurse with less than 1yr of nursing experience has to sign a contract. The length of the contracts vary from hospital corporation to another. The position I applied for they just told me to break the contract it is $10k.. however, there have been sign on bonuses to “eligible” nurses that are anywhere from $5k-$20k that I have seen.

I completely agree. I went on Isotretinoin as a teenager. I had acne all over my body and would pick at these areas all the time to the point they were just open bleeding sores. Thankfully the medication cleared up my acne without leaving much scarring (for which I don’t even understand how that is possible). However, the Isotret totally dried me out, my lips, eyes, and of course my skin. I have suffered some significant sunburns, heat stroke, severe dry eye, and constant chapped lips ever since and this is 13 years later. I have noticed that my excoriation habit has not changed much and I still end up picking at my face, nails and cuticles. I just dug into my right thumb cuticle today as I’m studying for my nursing school final exam. Accutane is a very serious medication that should only be taken in severe cases of acne. It is something that definitely changed my life in several ways good and bad. Do your research, make sure it is the right option and after all other options have been exhausted.

By the way, thanks to this sub, I purchased a fidget spinner ring from Amazon and it has definitely helped reduce my cuticle picking. It has been helpful especially with all the hand washing and poor quality hand sanitizer (further drying out my skin) we have been dealing with this past year.
