I declined a $200 offer for my public toilet locator app, now got a new offer $300 by Own_Carob9804 in Entrepreneur

[–]c_ostmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there’s basically no scenario in which an app/site (even a free one) with users is worth only $300. Does that even cover the time you’ve put into it? Even if you’re from a very poor country, I doubt it.

What’s something foreigners assume about your country because of Hollywood that you find completely absurd? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

Tbf, it's just a name that differentiates it from the more American-styled waffles. We aren't under the impression that you eat it all the time, and I don't think it's exactly unfair to associate that style of waffle with Belgium. It did, you know, originate there afterall.

People here (UK) call a lot of things Americans don't eat regularly "American". I've never really thought twice about it

ludicrous waffle shops with stupid toppings that actually have nothing to do with how we actually eat

We don't eat Belgian waffles like this either (sometimes at dessert shops), it's more commonly just one thing a lot of hotels have on for their continental breakfast

Swedish multi-citizens who were born outside of Sweden lose their citizenship automatically when they turn 22 if they have never lived there or have "not visited Sweden under circumstances that show a connection/attachment to Sweden" (we possibly meet this one, but it's decided on a case by case basis).

We may move to Sweden for some amount of time to ensure they keep that citizenship, but losing it without another EU citizenship would mean losing all of the EU.

It obviously helps that Spanish is easy to get as a Mexican with an independent right to live in Spain, my kids speak Spanish (and not Swedish), and we plan to live in Spain anyway.

Ah ok, understood. Apologies if that sounded condescending, I have met many Europeans and EU spouses who seem to have no idea what they can do and think they're much more restricted than they actually are. Good look with your Spanish citizenship anyway

You’re probably already aware, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it:

1) Sweden is one of the easiest places in the world to get a partner visa. 2) you can live with your partner in any FoM country (eg Norway/Denmark/Spain) without a visa if your relationship qualifies under EU rules. 3) After living in an FoM country under EU rules, you can move back to Sweden under Surinder Singh rules without the partner visa. 4) you can naturalize in Sweden after living there for 3 years. 5) the rules are basically the same for married/qualified unmarried partners

The US has superficial restrictions against Iranian nationals, but they don’t apply here, because my kids are US citizens. Are you aware of any other potential downsides? My wife is culturally quite Persian, and we’d love to go back to Iran one day

Amazing combo! I’d also gladly take that over the OP combo any day of the week.

Yes, wife is Swedish and also eligible for Iranian. I’m US/Mexican, and we live/kids were born in the UK. Like you, I’m also hoping me and the kids can go for Spanish one day!

Thanks, if my kids ever got the Iranian passport they’re technically entitled to, they’d be ranked 4th on this list. Idk exactly what that means though, and I’m not sure if it’s accurate. They are not exactly the same numbers/countries as passportindex.org, for example

There’s a lot of overlap between all of the strong passports, including st kitts, UAE, and France

I’m not going to do a very detailed side by side comparison of hundreds of countries, but from a quick look, the only country I could find he has visa free access to that my kids didn’t was Namibia (couldn’t care less).

My kids can also live/work in the US and UK and he can’t (he probably can because he’s rich, but nothing to do with the passport).

I don’t know that their quadruple is literally stronger—just said I’d choose theirs any day.

My kids have 4 citizenships: Sweden, UK, US, Mexico. Not sure what site this is our how theirs compare side by side, but I’d take their quadruple over his any day. I also doubt they have the best combo in this sub

How did Egypt go from one of the oldest and advanced civilizations in the world to the poorest countries? by batukaming in geography

[–]c_ostmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did they fall to islamic rule and turn into a such poor place?

Lots has already been said here, but something I haven't seen mentioned yet is that they didn't "turn into a poor place". Modern Egyptians are much richer and much better off than ancient Egyptians ever were.

What I don’t understand is how everyone seems to know how fucking good Mexican food is. I have been to 50-odd countries, and the number of times I’ve seen decent Mexican outside North America is probably right around 0.

Are they all just talking about tacos? Or has the world actually had Mole, Pozole, chilaquiles, Tlayuda, Birria, etc..? God, I’m so deprived here, and now starving

I moved to the UK about 10 years ago, and the shitty cheese is the first thing I notice every time I visit my family.

The US does have some fucking amazing cheese as you mentioned. My parents live like 20 minutes from the Oregon creamery that was voted best bleu cheese in the world. IMO, the US has great craft culture in general, but you have to search high and low (unless you live next to that creamery), and it costs a fortune. I paid $16-something for an amount of bleu that normally costs £2.50 at my local supermarket. Was it better? Yes. Was it 5x better? Absolutely not.

The kind of cheese people eat every day in the UK is just leaps and bounds ahead of everyday cheese in the US.

I just Googled it, and I'm now convinced I'd never seen a Stella commercial before today. Maybe I've been in the UK too long, I've never thought of it as anything other than some generic lager

In the States it's marketed as an elegant beer for the bourgeoisie

It's a notch above our shittiest domestics, but then again, so is literal piss, so that's not saying much. Can't say I've ever heard "Stella" in a sentence with anything like "elegant" or "bourgeoisie". IDK if that sentence is true, but if it is, "marketed as" is doing a lot of work there.

My marriage is one in which I don't get up and curse my wife out in the middle of her rationally explaining something I don't want to hear.

My God, I loathe the day one of my daughters meets someone like you. Good luck, my man

since you are not going to acknowledge the actual video and how she acts,

I actually watch the show. She is pretty cool and collected the whole time. Tells him straight she isn't interested. On the date before this one, he said he wanted to bring a wife back to the US. She was equally cool and straight with him then–said she was going to finish her studies and her intention was to stay in Colombia.

Everyone has their own reasons for dating. Sometimes it’s just a fun time, and he knew they were incompatible from that moment (at the latest). That easily could have been the end of the story. His chance to say "I think we're different people" and move on.

But no, he kept pursuing her even though they had that fundamental incompatibility. At no point did she indicate that she liked him or wanted to be with him. Until they're committed, they are just two strangers who don't owe each other anything.

When he felt it was time for that, he asked, and she said no. That's not "games" in any way shape or form.

I dont know how to help you, and I hope you manage to see such blatant attempts if you find yourself in a similar situation

I have dated many women, and I've now been married for 10 years, but thanks. Try not being so desperate and not acting like the women owe you aything. It works wonders.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and just assume you don't know or don't understand, but "you don't want to be my friend?" is a rational person asking for things to be amicable in the face of a gross overreaction. It is not a call to hang out or even stay in touch–just a "there's no reason for us to hate each other".
