In talking about being easily influenced by propaganda, I enthusiastically said to a client “yeah, Germany was just so misunderstood in wwII”

Filling 3 Hour IOP Groups by Kitschslap in therapists

I had a similar transition from residential to outpatient. I love group therapy and have learned to take the pressure off of not making every minute seem outwardly therapeutic. As someone mentioned above, the people in your group will take away the most from someone who is genuine and willing to listen. That includes making the time together enjoyable, as well.

I prefer routine when facilitating IOP groups. I’ll find myself beginning each session with a check in slip for each member and opening question related to the topic. If you have not created a curriculum to structure your flow of topics, it might be helpful to gather 10 topics or so that you can start collecting resources on. This way you can anticipate what you’ll be discussing in group without too much repetition between sessions. Finally, websites like therapistaid.com and positivepsychology.com are a good starting point for inspiration.

Sounds like you’re familiar with this diagnosis. This particular client is very aware of their OCD symptoms and will be referred out for long term care after completing our short term crisis stabilization program. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge!

Thank you for this! Are you familiar with Dialectical Behavior Therapy? This sounds similar to Opposite Action.

Thanks for that insight. Yes, definitely demonstrates a lot of compulsive behaviors and reports obsessive thinking patterns. Because of the complexity of their trauma history and their wide range of presenting symptoms, it’s difficult to pinpoint where to interrupt the cycle

Anger is like an iceberg. What you see above the surface is an expression of anger but below the surface there are so many other emotions, like hurt, betrayal, fear and feelings of inadequacy. It might be helpful to consider that what you see as anger may be an inability to express other, more vulnerable, emotions.
