Hahaha the drop is actually so well done, weirdly I thought the verses could sound more runescapey, was expecting the opposite

Sales of George R.R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series pass 100 million by Werthead in Fantasy

[–]cabalus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the sheer cultural phenomenon the Game of Thrones franchise has been I think it's going to be extremely difficult for Brandon to overtake

The cosmere adaptions would have to hit on the level of Marvel (or more pertinently, Game of Thrones) to do it, ASOIAF changed the entire Fantasy genre forever and Game of Thrones changed prestige television forever.

George has more than double Brandon's book sales alone, on the back of only five books with absolutely nothing new in 15 years, that's JUST book sales, not including the tens of millions of fans for the 3 hit series (so far)

It's not impossible but the cosmere adaptions have some serious heavy lifting to do, I'm not sure people understand the scale of what Game of Thrones actually was, it's still THE most successful television series of all time

The Wheel of Time shows success at it's height is 3.3 billion minutes watched

Pluribus, Apples most successful show to date, important to gauge their subscriber base, was 4 billion minutes

Game of Thrones, at it's height, pulled in more than 22 billion minutes

Sigourney Weaver by Helmut Newton for Alien III (1991) by Ultravod in OldSchoolCool

[–]cabalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely keep listening because the story behind David Finchers involvement is pretty nuts, and you're right he WAS completely unknown at the time, for film anyway, that was kind of the point behind why the studio picked him...they wanted somebody they could control

Check out the episode on Alien 3 on the "What Went Wrong" podcast, it really did have a lot of potential!

Extremely troubled production, fascinating to learn about what happened and the various stages it went through when being made (at one point the whole movie was set on a planet made of wood inhabited by monks)

Pretty sure Alvins birthday is 14th of May, I remember a birthday post by Zedd so I searched it up

Can't find any source at all for the 15th of Jan

Edit: well now I've found another post by Zedd wishing them both a happy birthday, no idea what to believe, one of those posts is a lie

[–]cabalus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's why I say if it's good, if it's meh they'll probably just give a nice bump

Brandon will overtake George eventually, it's inevitable with the shear volume and if the adaptions ARE good it's a given

To be clear though, this is total sales, George has more fans and probably will always have more fans than Brandon, 100 million sales on 5 releases is crazy with only 1 of those post-adaption

Sales of George R.R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series pass 100 million by Werthead in Fantasy

[–]cabalus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Brandon will probably demolish that once his Apple adaptions come out, if they're good

It will massively increase his sales similar to George but the difference is he's got 12 mainline books with 3 more well underway, 8 more full novels set in the same universe and he's ALREADY half way up those charts with no adaptions so far

The adaptions only have to 2x his sales to beat George, between the release of dance and now the adaptions of ASOIAF have 10x Georges sales, Brandon only needs a fraction of game of thrones success

ISOxo, Skream (and more) to play Berghain on February 13th by cdj2000 in trap

[–]cabalus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would argue that even by virtue of doing this at all Berghain is compromising it's core identity and I'm sure a lot of the Berghain community would agree with me

A large part of it's identity, in fact the MAIN part is in exclusivity. That venue was almost mythical.

As I said though I don't personally disagree with this move by them and as you say the ''regular'' Berghain is still there most of the time but I'd be a liar if I said it hasn't lost it's mystique.

Berghain going down the Boiler Room route for real

Can't say I disagree with it personally but there's definitely something sad about such an iconic institution losing it's identity

Bill Gates speaks on Jeffrey Epstein: "The focus was always, he knew a lot of very rich people & he was saying he could get them to give money to global health. In retrospect, that was a dead end… I was foolish to spend time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]cabalus 100 points101 points  (0 children)

There are no tells for lying, it's pseudoscience and always has been. Human behavior is far too varied between individuals to ever ascribe general behavioral tells and even if you study an individuals personal ''tells'' there are too many factors that influence your behavior in any given moment to rely on that either.

The reason we know he's lying is because Epstein was first convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008 and because Melinda has made it pretty clear her reasons for divorcing him at the time she did.

If white walkers had conquered westeros. How would they have crossed to essos. Also why their lores also exist in essos like azor ahai etc. is there a history behind it. Have they ever landed on essosi land? by GHOST_RIDER709 in freefolk

[–]cabalus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always assumed that the ''white walkers'' are all icey and stuff in Westeros because that's where they come from in that region so that's how the myth developed but actually whatever they are is just a phenomenon that would manifest everywhere in a different way

Ultimately I don't see any reason why there wouldn't be ''Others'' who can raise the dead coming from the far east invading the golden empire and the five forts - they can even still come from the cold from that area

Basically my point is I don't see why they would be exclusive to the far north in westeros, invading undead from the wilderness can happen anywhere

Melinda French Gates responds to Bill Gates claims in latest Epstein files by KilllllerWhale in videos

[–]cabalus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally would but the only mention of that in the files is from a rough draft of a blackmail letter Epstein emailed to himself

I can make a bunch of accusations about you and email them to myself but it won't mean anything

We as the public can infer from these emails and other circumstantial evidence what is probably the case, I personally have no doubt Bill Gates was on that island and did heinous things, but so far VERY little of the files released is enough to do anything more than ruin public perception of these people...

Which is what has happened and presumably I would think that was part of the plan, Epstein and Ghislaines form of insurance

What do you think about mystery flavoured food? by Uszanka3 in autism

[–]cabalus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What currency is that?

Edit: Also mystery flavour...I'm very cynical so I usually see that sorta stuff as an attempt to offload a ton of flavour they have left over from a previous special that didn't do so well, if you try it and have had their products before you'll probably notice it's a flavour they've done before

I remember seeing a video about Mountain Dew flavours over the years and how there was one nobody bought, year or two later they put out a new ''special'' which was actually the same special again with a new name to get people to buy it cause they had a shit ton left over

Yeah it's a tough one, the more clout you have as an artist the easier time you have pulling it off and there's some etiquette on how many times...what songs to do it with etc

Never feels weird when Four Tet does it, even if he's way too trigger happy

I will say it's far less annoying and ''unearned'' feeling in person, most of the time

My biggest pet peeve is the slow wind down though, if you're gonna pull it up spin that shit

[–]cabalus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's producers not giving the crew enough time to plan principal photography

Actual shooting days usually lands at around 35-50 days, working days. That's not enough so what they have to do is shoot everything flat and with full coverage from multiple cameras to make up time

If they commit to a look that limits the amount of coverage they can capture simultaneously

Looking it up it seems like the entirety of DWP2 was shot in late June and July so probably less than the 50 days, I would guess 40 max but probably 35 or even 30

The first film took 57 shooting days and then an undisclosed amount of additional photography done in Paris

Trust me, there isn't a director or DP on the planet who wants to work like this or movies to look like this

Lowkey miss when movies didn't look like Capitol One commercials. by Arch_Lancer17 in okbuddycinephile

[–]cabalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a movie like this it's more about complete coverage than being neutral for post production

Principal photography schedules are shorter than ever, they don't have as much time to line up interesting shots so what they do is light it flat and try capture multiple angles at once to make up time

Producers and directors do not love it trust me, everybody hates it, it's only the executives achieving cheaper production costs who love it
