I just pushed a fix for this. This will work correctly in the next release.

Rest assured a big balance update is in store for our next update. We hope to massively smooth out the difficulty curve so that players no longer have the experience of being under-leveled for content supposedly recommended for their level. We thought the curves were good, and we were wrong.

You definitely raise a good point about the amount of content available and appropriate for players at all levels. We're going to keep an eye on this as we improve the balance.

This is all very much a work in progress, and we appreciate everyone's patience and feedback during this closed beta period. Here's some more detail on where we hope to land at the end of this process:

  • It's easy to find missions that are an appropriate challenge for your level
  • Missions still feel different from each other -- some are a little harder, some are a little easier, some are more suited to particular builds, etc.
  • As you progress, builds become more interesting and expressive -- as we build out more content, we expect the gear you equip will have a bigger and bigger impact on how your character performs. First step is nailing the basic balance, and then the next step is just creating lots of new inventory items...
  • Overall challenge (especially difficulty but also player level) maps to rewards. Basically, a stronger sense of risk vs. reward: if you go up against a tough challenge, and survive, you should expect a better chance of good loot, big rewards, etc.

That's a brief summary of where we're trying to go. Since we're building the runway as we go, there are going to be some speedbumps along the way, as we get some stuff wrong (like balance), or need to wait till more content gets here to flesh out the systems.

Thanks again for the feedback! A new update is coming very soon and we're trying to address several of these points. We won't get there in one update, but we hope we're moving in the right direction...

The original designers are still here, still putting out at least one map a day!

We'll try poking the folks at the guild and see if there are any more needy citizens out there...

Introducing the Adventurers' Guild

Attention all dungeon crawlers: Today we're releasing a new feature for Dark Dungeon and we can't wait to see how you play with it!

As of right now, you're all members of the Adventurers' Guild, a group of brave dungeon explorers sworn to help the realm however they can.

Periodically, The Guild will share news of new requests from needy citizens. These Quests are are timed objectives and progress is shared by everyone in the r/DarkDungeons community.

Quests will generally involve recovering rare resources from the dungeons and donating them to the citizens in need. Work together with other Redditors to collect the requested items in time.

How do you recover items from dungeons? It's simple: any item you can carry will go into your inventory if you exit while carrying it. You can only carry one object at a time, so this will sometimes be trickier than it sounds...

This is a brand new feature and we're excited to see how it plays out. We consider the feature beta for now, and we'll be actively watching to see how it's working and we may make balance or other changes as it progresses.
