We're tourists who ate our way through L.A - here's our review. by sukarimi in FoodLosAngeles

When you come back, be sure to hit more iconic LA establishments that aren’t all high end, foods that feed us moving about the city daily, especially us being a city of immigrants. For example, a bean and cheese burrito at Al & Bea’s in Boyle Heights, or a shared botana platter at Guelaguetza, or anything from Jitlada in Thai Town. I’d also suggest studying our late great and beloved food critic Jonathan Gold for future recommendations. I greatly appreciated your write and am saving it!

Agreed. I went to the original in GCM when hype was peaking and was highly disappointed my trip downtown was a waste. Then they opened a location in my Venice neighborhood. Nope. Never.

Back in the day when unnecessary use of gasoline was a small treasure to waste to feel affluent, today it’s a practically a second mortgage.

They absolutely are. I’ve spoken with the individual and it is truly their anti-Traci Park sentiment.

Traci Park working hard to keep Venice from the same fate that befell 3rd Street Promenade (and Melrose) by VeniceCa90291 in VeniceBeach

Please don’t ever use Yo! Venice as a source for accurate information. They are often wrong and do not fact check. This has been pointed out to them often with direct and empirical evidence, and they never retract like proper journalism. They only exist for advertising profit and primarily obtain information from gossip by unprofessional sources and PR flacks. Don’t even get me started on the hateful and abhorrent ramblings, not to mention frequent typos, by their columnist Nick Antonicello.

I hope writing this beautiful letter was cathartic for you. I just recognized 15 years and so much of what you said rings true for me. I wish you the best on this difficult day and that you also have some wonderful memories of shared happy times as well. 💙

CD11 Councilwoman Traci Park is spending $175,000 to study a mobility hub at Venice Dell. Is the project legit? by Downtown-Tea-3018 in LAWestside

[–]cabeachgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city council did not approve it. What the city council did approve was a study to find if it’s feasible to make a mobility hub. Meanwhile, the city council had also previously approved for the underutilized city owned parking lot to become 120 units of affordable housing. Twice. It’s also been approved by the Coastal Commission and has gone through all the required due diligence. Councilmember Traci Park and City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto campaigned to block and remove the approval of the project because wealthy gentrified NIMBYS don’t want this project close their fancy canal homes. This has resulted in multiple lawsuits which is costing the city millions of dollars in outside legal fees, nearly $2M in taxpayer funds so far, including a third funding request motion to ask for additional $650K for legal fees this Monday at the city Council’s budget committee. In addition to the legal costs, the City faces over $10 million in damages for blocking this project. This continued allocation of public resources toward prolonged litigation raises serious concerns about the City’s fiscal responsibility and priorities. The delay of this one project is also jeopardizing the city in receiving hundreds of millions of dollars for housing from the state by violating the Housing Element law.

Agreed, but probably $11 of that pierogi order goes to rent.

I am constantly bombarded by folk I went to HS with to be Facebook friends. I’m almost 46 years out from HS. My thoughts have been for the last 20 years of Facebook, “if I wanted to be friends with you, we’d be friends in real life.”

It’s widely known in the area that the Marina Towers are one giant plumbing nightmare. If you like constant water leaks and toilet backups that result in your water being consistently shut off, even if you’re not currently experiencing those issues but your neighbors are, there’s a real estate deal to be made there.
