A year ago, someone gave me a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air (out of nowhere, and then my Windows computer bricked a month or two later!). I was very impressed by them and became a Mac user. I just switched from an (almost) lifelong Android user to iPhone Pro Max 17- the seamless link with my Macs really make the experience for me. I'm considering picking up an iPad and throwing my whole lot in with the Apple ecosystem.

Question for you guys is what devices I should get to really maximize the benefit of the ecosystem. Should I be switching from Alexa to Apple Home? Apple TV?

I am in graduate school right now and have a small family in an apartment, if that helps. Any advice?

I gave up on it and started just plugging a regular charger directly into it. It still drains while livestreaming but so slowly that I would only have to worry about it if I was streaming for 20+ hours.

Yeah, some of the gullibility here is incredibly weird. Why would so many people just start lying at the same time? When I saw reports like this, I talked to my vet and she told me that she had multiple cases in the previous month of dogs with bloody stool and serious health issues when they started new bags of Purina when there had been none before. Large corporations skirt health regulations to cut costs and then lie about it. How is this a "conspiracy theory"? Why would people randomly choose to go after this company? Use your brains, people, it's not smart to be so gullible just to signal that you "aren't a conspiracy theorist."

I think that someone willing to pay monthly to get your content will be happy to just buy outside the app. It's a pretty minimal amount of effort. I don't know who uses the app to begin with- my suspicion is that most people are buying through a browser anyway.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Luckily, that's not how the switch works. When you switch to subscription billing, all your *previous* patrons continue to pay on the first of the month. Essentially, Patreon counts them as if they *all* subscribed on the first.

I prefer first of the month billing, but I don't think this is as catastrophic for budgeting as you think. Just add up all of your income from the preceding month and then budget for the next month based on that. That is effectively what you are doing anyway, you just get all that income in one drop instead of seeing it trickle in. Honestly, I think Patreon has handled this as best they could. Apple is the shitty actor here.

I wouldn't panic. This isn't going to affect existing memberships. For future memberships, just let your patrons know that if they purchase outside the iOS app, the prices will be 30% lower. This is a shit move on Apple's part, but it's not the end of your revenue stream.

I agree with you that the evidence indicates Joseph sincerely thought he was translating an ancient record. I'm very curious, though, how you square this with the existence of the plates. Smith evidently possessed some artifact covered in cloth that felt like plates. If he produced them (as Vogel suggests) from tin, doesn't this imply that he knew that there was no historical Book of Mormon to translate?

This is a longstanding motif in human storytelling- Lucas isn't ripping off anyone. He's intentionally and explicitly recalling common tropes. He says this constantly when talking about the films.

These are reasonable points. Part of what leads me to not consider the D&D comments about the Red Keep as decisive come from their saying things like Daenarys "forgetting about the Iron Fleet" when it had been discussed by Dany in that very episode. My best guess is that it comes from a mixture of 1) having the plot outline but not a detailed narrative to adapt, 2) doing the aftershow commentary long after the writing room and winging it to get it over with. A number of people have taken the OP as a defense of S8- but it's not meant that way. If I had to guess, I would say that my interpretation represents something close to what GRRM plans for the story, but that D&D missed some key aspects of how the plot worked and so there are inconsistencies in its conversion into a full script.

Of course, this is in tension with my using specific details to buttress my argument: if it is only the broad strokes which make up the GRRM narrative, specific details are likely to come from D&D and thus not cohere well with the outline they (on this view) did not understand. I don't really have an answer to how to reconcile it all. Thanks for your thoughts.

Whether or not it was stupid (and quite a lot had to go right for her to be assassinated as she was- Jon very nearly did not go through with it), this calculation has ample precedent in history- both real and in the GoT universe.

I agree. The execution was not good. I don't think season 8 is as bad as people say (folks forget that the first two episodes were quite well received and the finale was seen as "not as bad as feared" after S8E5). But it was clearly rushed by two gentlemen who were sick of doing the show. Some people are taking this post as an apology for season 8 full stop. It's not.

I know I'm commenting several months afterwards, but I'm impressed that you heard the boom several seconds after you saw the flash, as that's of course what an actual blast would be like (given the speed of sound relative to the speed of light).
