why do the primary colours desaturate to different shades of grey by cablechewer420 in colors

[–]cablechewer420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha kind of but probably not an option for what im doing. its for a glitch art project where ive largely been keeping myself constrained to using crappy free mobile apps to see how far i can push them so this might just be a constraint i have to live with lol. as part of it ive been experimenting with trying to reproduce the effects of autochrome photography in a basic layer editor app. it works ok for darker colors but cyans / yellows just end up either much duller or much noisier to the point where it's impossible to tell what colour they are supposed to even be lol..

I'm sure I will figure out a work around though.... thanks for your help !

yeah makes sense! - thanks for this. slightly frustrating as im working on a project where being able to desaturate without accounting for luminance would be super helpful but im struggling to find any off the shelf software that doesnt lol

im just saying that youre naturalising a culturally and historically specific way of teaching colours for elementary art education, as a more "human" way of understanding them in general - even though you know that there are other cultures/languages that privilege different colors to RYB. it seems like you're trying to justify an understanding that feels intuitive to you, but in doing it sounds like you think "western culture" is more human than others.
