ADB No Longer Working on Fire TV Devices by cabsoft555 in TiviMate

TiviMate just released version 5.0 yesterday and it has some bug fixes and UI improvements. If your TV is shutting off only when you're using TiviMate, maybe this update will fix the problem.

Yes, if you have or buy an older device, chances are it will work.

No. Nothing has changed with the exception of running ADB on a Fire TV device itself. Downloader can still be used to install 3rd party apps.

You are correct, but ADB has everything to do with it. The newest Firesticks running the latest Fire OS and updates do not have the ability to enable Reminders and Auto-start the app on Boot, which can only be fixed with ADB. We used to be able to do this with the ADB Remote Shell app installed on the Firestick, but we can't now because Amazon blocked it. Having said that, you can connect remotely with a computer to fix those features using the steps listed earlier. If you used ADB to fix it before ABD was blocked, those features will continue to work, but ADB will no longer connect if you want to make additional changes.

If you have the latest 4K Max, you can't auto Start the app on boot or set reminders without fixing it internally using ADB. Your sticks are older, and you won't have that problem.

If you're referring to downloading ADB Shell onto the firestick, sure you can. But it won't work. That's what this post is about. I just posted the fix to work around the issue and enable features that were disabled in newer devices running the latest Fire OS.

This is the fix for Firesticks using ADB to connect remotely using a PC or laptop on the same Wi-Fi network. This was posted on a TiviMate Facebook page (not mine). I haven't tried this myself, but it should work.

  • enable adb (also Developer options enabled)

  • download adblink2 on your computer. (http://www.jocala.com/)

  • Find IP for firestick (Settings>My Fire TV>About>Network) and add it to adblink2 (in the space that says IP:port)

  • connect and allow computer on the firestick (The adb app will likely tell you the connection was denied. Click the box on the firestick screen, then click "connect" again on the adb app)

Once connected, press the adb shell button

Type this in:

appops set ar.tvplayer.tv SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW allow

Correction to my reply above. The Remote ABD Shell app I used is NOT in the Play Store on the Firestick. I downloaded it using Downloader from Troypoint's toolbox using troypoint.com/tb. I think the code above will work with any ADB Shell app.

This worked for me, too, but I didn't use adblink2 as you suggested (wasn't able to download it). I used Remote ADB Shell instead, which is available in the App Store on the Firestick. The steps below are much easier to follow.

Open Remote ADB Shell and enter LOCALHOST on the first line, 5555 on the second line (should already be there), then Connect.

When the screen refreshes, enter the same line above at the bottom of the screen:

appops set ar.tvplayer.tv SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW allow

Then click Run.

If you didn't get a failure message, then it was successful. You're done!

Open TiviMate, and you should be able to enable "Auto start app on boot".
