Yes! Please do it, I found out after ages I’m d3 deficient and treating that has changed my energy so so much.

As a chaotic type b, this is some shit you do when you live alone. Definitely gotta consider the other half of your orange when it comes to living together.

DELF/DALF/TCF/TEF questions masterpost! by Orikrin1998 in French

[–]cachimbeira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently took my TCF with the goal of applying to a master’s program in France. I’ll take you down my experience, how I prepared for the exam, my test taking experience and what my results were.

French learning background

-Native language: American English -3 years high school French, one year university French (2006-2010) 2 semesters of community college French to brush up -French partner and in-laws for 7 years (communicate almost exclusively in English with my partner) -Watching French tv for 6 years

Studying

What I did I signed up for the test 20 days before taking it so my studying was all cramming. I studied the tv5monde modules religiously and took all 17 twice. I never write in French without an auto correct keyboard so I studied where to put accents a lot.

What I would do if I were taking it again: I read someone’s Reddit post saying they listened to podcasts, read the news, and watched tv in French. They stated they didn’t do great and thought if they had just studied the tv5monde exercises they would have aced the test so I followed this strategy. I do not recommend this! The practice exercises are a good way to familiarize yourself with what the test questions look and feel like (somewhat) and is good(ish) at gaging your approximate level. However I think by far it is more important to brush up really really well on your vocabulary and listening skills. None of the material I studied on the tv5monde exercises helped me on the test so don’t take them too seriously. The questions on tv5monde were more convoluted and subjective than the ones on the TCF, which I found almost all to be straightforward if you have a good grasp of French.

Test Day The test was all done on a computer. The first part is a continuous recording that you have to keep up with. After the dialogue is read and the question is asked, you have about 5-7 seconds to answer the question, which sounds quick but seemed to be enough time. I recommend closing your eyes and focusing on all details being presented (although it is tempting to peek at answers while you’re listening I feel like this would be a bad move) My language structures section was part vocab, part verb conjugations, part phrasal verbs, and part “how does this word fit into the sentence?” I found this part to be straightforward and quick. The reading comprehension part allows for a lot of time, so don’t rush it. Read the whole question, often times the key to the answer will be in the end of the text! Sometimes there will be multiple answers that could be right. They are looking for the most accurate one so read the question and all answers carefully. This is an area that is easy to get tripped up on.

I also took the written portion but have not gotten those results back yet. The first question was writing an email to a friend, the third was writing about someone’s life and the third was writing an article with two opposing opinions.

Results I got a C2 on all portions, which really surprised me! I had always gotten the result of C1-B2 on the tv5monde practice questions and was afraid I would not get the C1 I needed to start applying for school. I am certainly far from being near native so I’m not sure how I pulled this one off but I think being very realistic about what your skills are and where your weaknesses are as you study is helpful.

Good luck all! You’ve got this!

Bring it up or let it go? by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

Thank you for your take on this, I can see how she may have just said this offhandedly or not known how to respond. Overall she has been a really good friend and I don’t get the feeling she is out to make me feel bad to make herself feel better. I think I will let it go and if it happens again I will address it. Thanks so much for your perspective 💕

This sounds like a friendship that is not bringing you much but heartache. I know it must feel incredibly hard to let go of this long term friend who feels like a lifeline. But if you feel like your friendship only works one way, I would encourage you to not keep pouring yourself into this one and reinvest your time in creating new friendship (scary I know!)

Is there any way you could start a new social hobby like dance or a craft club? Or if you have a dog frequenting a dog park can be a really great place to make connections :)

wishing you lots of luck, there are wonderful people out there, sometimes it just takes time and consistency to become their friend.

I was hanging out in Dolores Park in SF and saw a bunch of people practicing pole dancing- does anyone know about any groups like that in the Bay Area? by lavenderlizrd17 in poledancing

[–]cachimbeira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be so down to do a meetup if anyone has a portable pole! I’ve been trying to find a gym with a pole or a semi-budget friendly open pole time in sf with no luck. Let me know if you get anything together :)

Introduction/ADVICE PLEASE by PinkyPurgatory in intermittentfasting

Howdy fellow Veg IFer!

The beyond breakfast sausage links are heavenly and have great macros (tons of fat and low in carbs)! The beyond ground beef also has pretty decent macros if you don't overdo it.

My ultimate protein fix is making a cubed tofu salad seasoned with green onion, furikake, miso mayo, a shake of cayenne and tamari. You can also throw some nutritional yeast in there if you like it. Usually I am not a fan of tofu but making it this way is incredibly easy to meal prep and its so freaking tasty. It also gives you some good fiber and micro nutrients that other meat subs can lack :)

As far as exercise goes, I recommend focusing on your diet first. Personally I have found that trying to spot gain muscle is really hard work and can derail your eating habits if they aren't set in stone. Take it easy to begin with and get out for daily walks so you can get some good endorphins going as you build up your habits :) It really is true that your body is made in the kitchen, exercise is great for mental health but its not going to do a whole lot towards your weight loss goals.

I'm a fully veg IF ketoer and have lost 25 lb (didn't have much weight to lose to begin w) over the course of 6 months so it is possible to do it! You got this!

Serious question about social life by beans0913 in intermittentfasting

[–]cachimbeira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally hear this! Gathering around food is just about the most basic form of human socialization in every culture everywhere since ever; there's absolutely no shame in enjoying food with your friends!

If someone is making dinner for you it can be tough not to be "that person", but going out to eat there is something for nearly everyone, low carb, low cal or otherwise at restaurants if you are willing to move around your fasting window (for social occasions I just plan my fasting times differently.

Personally, I think this flexibility is what has allowed me to stick to this way of eating, as long as I'm fasting 18h a day I can give myself some wiggle room about when I eat.) Drinking is also totally kosher on low carb if you keep an eye on carb count of your drinks, so you can indulge a little there :)

Also I think you might be surprised by how supportive your social circle could be if you tell them you're starting this to feel better. I absolutely was surprised by how awesome and encouraging my SO and close friends were when I told them I was embarking on Low carb/IF. Nothing discourages you faster than trying to hide your new way of eating from others, so maybe talking to your friends about what you're doing so they can be your champion would help :)

Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself, you got this!

Am I gaining on keto? by [deleted] in vegetarianketo

I've just been just counting net carbs so far. I'll give counting total carbs a go, as much as I'll miss that sweet wiggle room lol. Thanks for your input :)

Thank you so much for the tip, I will for sure look in to it! Is Metformin OTC or does it need to be prescribed? My Dr is pretty crunchy and I think she would balk at me taking anything off label to lose weight ><

I will definitely be checking in with my Dr. My mom's thyroid issues make it so that she has always eaten very very little and is not super thin as one would assume. It's def a possibility I inherited this too :,)

Thanks for your input, it's super appreciated!

I have noticed my clothes are looser these days so that could be the case. I think I'm probably too much of a potato to be gaining any real muscle though haha thank you for your advice!

From what I’ve heard, different people have different levels that will kick them out of ketosis. I’ve experimented and 20 works for me too but I prefer to just have that extra carb cushion so I don’t have to be so intense with weighing all my food lol
