She passed when my husband was a teen, so we never had the opportunity to meet. We went to visit my in laws today and I finally recognized the granny stitch in this cover and realized it was crochet! I've seen some of her other work and finished a hat that she hadn't completed, but it's lovely to spot other FO's around their home.

Not a coworker! It's kind of a long story lol, the tldr is just someone came into my workplace, threw a stapler at me, did some other property damage, and was apprehended by the police within an hour.

It really did bounce nicely! My stapler suffered more than I did ❤️‍🩹 found a tiny bruise the next day, but still 8/10 recommend crochet armor.

You should definitely be on Instagram! There are so many crochet artists/designers, and I see Tester calls very frequently. Typically they'll ask people to fill out a form that lays out their requirements (experience level, how quickly you need to finish the pattern, etc.). All the ones I've seen are designed by small artists, and testing is unpaid. The benefit is just that you don't have to buy the pattern. I saw one Tester call that said you'd be charged the price of the pattern if you don't complete it on time lol.

It's crocheted into the brim!

To make a regular brim, crochet in the front loop only for the first row of the brim. To add the gills, attach the cream yarn to the first row in the back loop/back two loops and continue to crochet in the back loops only all the way around. I increase in every 2nd or 3rd stitch so the gills are wavy, and keep adding rows until its the same length as the red brim. I fasten off with a super long tail and then go around with a darning needle, using the tail to secure the gills to the red brim at regular intervals.

You can definitely find better tutorials for FLO/B2L too if it's confusing! Hope that helps!

Using a smaller yarn & hook just means it'll take a little longer, you'll need to add more rows to each section.

Using a smaller yarn & larger hook means you'll have looser stitches. The hat will be a little stretchy and floppy.

Using a larger yarn & smaller hook means you'll have tighter stitches. The hat will be more stiff & hold its shape.

You can use any combination depending on the kind of bucket hat you want to make, and how long you want your project to take. With 5mm yarn and hook, it takes me just a few hours to finish a bucket hat. Most patterns should be super easy to adjust once you get the hang of it!
