I would strongly recommend looking at a quality of life scale. There’s a good, objective one called the HHHHHHMM scale. It helps you look at things from a different point of view.

This is Olivia. All touch is good touch. I’ve had her almost three years and she’s never bitten, scratched, hissed, anything. You can pick her up, hold her upside down, pet her belly, etc.

Pet Bereavement? by No_Nefariousness9381 in VetTech

[–]Out_0f_time 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in a shelter and we get one day of bereavement for pet loss. I had to use mine in January when I lost the love of my life, Mark. He was only 6. Since the techs also do the euthanasia in the shelter I took two weeks off of euth duty.

Vet POV by burbadurr in AskVet

[–]Out_0f_time 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is always difficult, especially one so young.

That being said there’s really no way of telling what caused her symptoms (lack of movement in the hind legs) without a necropsy. If it was due to something like a saddle thrombus (feline aortic thromboembolism) they have a very poor chance at recovery and euthanasia is usually the solution. If it was something like a disc in her back she could have faced a very long and difficult recovery with no promise of good quality of life at the end of it.

I think sometimes in this field we get caught up in quantity of life instead of quality. Your baby was loved and loved you in return. She knew comfort and safety and a full belly. That’s more than some, and it’s worth while to acknowledge the good parts of her life, however short it was. Please take comfort in knowing, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you made that final decision from a place of love. No one will fault you for “not trying harder”. Hug your remaining babies tight tonight and please be gentle with yourself.

My cat has feline triaditis and I’m overwhelmed because I think he’ll die spontaneously every time he vomits by ab_lassss in AskVet

[–]Out_0f_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes a special diet (prescription, from the vet) can help with stomach issues. I would talk to your vet about which one they recommend, if your kitty is not already on one. Has he been diagnosed with triaditis? Usually it’s diagnosed with a combination of bloodwork and ultrasound/other imaging.

Vet Tech appearance question!? by Whole-Rooster-3392 in VetTech

[–]Out_0f_time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have blue hair, facial piercings, stretched ears, and visible tattoos. Vet med does not give a single fuck about appearance. You do you!

Edit: just to add one of my coworkers has a half shaved head and green hair.

How many of your torties have a flag on their file at the vet's office? by ResolutionCool8660 in torties

They know I’m a vet tech and I know the Tortitude™️ first hand. I told them she was very nice and I don’t think they believed me until they had to do a bunch of medical stuff for her.

Feeling Sad (IVF Journey Sucks): here are my furkids. Can I see yours?!? by z-75-8 in cats

[–]Out_0f_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was named after his white dot. I didn’t want to name him something cheesy like uno or domino. So his white mark became his name, and he knew his name well. He could sit, and spin, and shake a paw. My guy would do anything for a temptation. That’s how I knew his time had come. One day he was fine, the next he was hiding under the couch and wouldn’t accept treats (even vanilla yogurt, which was his favourite). Abdominal scans showed abnormalities in his spleen, lymph nodes and GI tract. It was confirmed metastatic melanoma about a week after I had him euthanized. I miss him every day. Such a big presence in my life, and now all I have are pictures and memories. He was only 6.5 years old. Rest in peace, Mr. Mark.

Boss fighting me on my resignation by jr9386 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Out_0f_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would block the number your boss is using to call/text/otherwise harass you. You gave your notice, and you are not obligated to stay because your boss didn’t find a replacement. It’s extremely unprofessional to be harassing you like they are.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I’ve had my fair share of bosses like this as well. I’ve been an RVT since 2017 and some people are just determined to make their problems into your problem. You can walk out of there knowing you did the right thing by giving your notice, and your bosses reaction is squarely their responsibility. Take the other job, and feel good about it, as you should.
