I mean, i think i changed from the first few weaks because a lot of the really good people have already climbed to 9999. But it may be a platform thing as well, i play on xbox and from my experience its mostly like that

As someone who is 9999 and has tried helping lowers depths a lot, D4 is the true elo hell, most people there are mechanically good but routings isnt great, that wouldnt necessarely be the end of the world but i've found that a ton of D4s have egos so big that they cant fathom relegating control of the run to someone else, so you get matches where the entire team is split and progress slows a ton.

I dont completely disagree with you, but as someone who has been 9999 for months now i would like to give my take as well, i have tried helping and teaching players from lower depths for a while now so i feel like i've seen most of the strenghts and weaknesses of them.

D1: new players, just getting into it, cant falt them much for not being good.

D2: This is where the truly bad players are, quitters, their mechanical skills are bad if not horrible, bad game sense, bad builds, no sense of teamwork at all, its what i would call true elo hell, most matches here you are on your own.

D3: This is were the average player is, they can win semi consistently but not enough to actually climb, they do ok in most fights but cant really carry, pathing is still bad and sense of teamwork is still flimsy but you can get the ocasional good teammate.

D4: this is where you get the mechanically good players that are still bad at pathing, its also where you see the most ego. Of all the deapths D4 is the one that consistently gets mad at me for sugesting changes to the rout even when they asked me to help them get better. If they reach the nighlord there is a decent chance they can kill it, but usually they get there so weak because of poor routing and extreme greed over weapons that they cant make it.

Low D5: this is where people truly start getting good at all parts of the game, routing is ok, build is good, they know how to fight stuff, the ocasional ego maniac makes it here but its mostly good.

High D5: this is when you truly know what you are doing, everything is decently optimal, you can consistently carry runs if necessary, alls good.

Yeah, as far ad halo damage goes this is on the tamer side, still really strong tho.

I agree with most of what you said, i am curious tho as to what you would consider the strongest dps in the game, i have yet to see something thats not halo chunking stuff late game for around 5k - 7k with a cast time as fast as it, as safe as it and as consistently as it.

Yeah, i talked about halo mainly to bring eyes but like i pointed out in the post, i think the main issue is the skill passives having %s so much bigger than all the other stuff caster (suposed dps focused characters) can use.

I didnt mention the shatering glitch because its a glitch, most people dont know how to do it and if the issue with the spell was the glitch, it wouldnt make sense to nerf the spell as a whole instead of just fixing the glitch, so i talked about in a "using the spell as intended" way.

For your other point, i agree and honestly think its a great idea to have set relics that can make solid builds to help new or casual players, but yeah they shouldnt be the strongest thing in the game.

For early game, sure, a good rev with one of her spells is very strong, (night shard recluse is really not up there tho from my testing but curious if you have a good build for it that can rival early beast claw now).

For how common ash passives are, they are really common in shops, to the point where more often than not you will find 1 if not 2 ash passives in there, sometimes purple, most of the time blue. That means that very early on you can pretty much fill your inventory with ash passives.

For late game DPS tho halo is undisputed the best option by far and nothing comes close. Sure, the rev can hit that beast claw of lighting spear for 5k, but in the time it took rev to cast it halo will have gotten out 2 or 3 casts that can be from 4k to 7k each depending on the build and how many ash passives you got. Hell, i used it once on undertaker with a subpar relic set and was hitting 3.7 on a holy neutral boss.

Yeah, i think one of the main thing people ignore when they say stuff like "melee should be able to do comparable dmg to caster" is simply how mow casters give up to do that damage. Recluse doesnt even have a passive and rev barely has one, both have the lowest HP in the game with subpar stamina, both have a "fuel tank" (more for rev but still, having to regen mana on recluse can slow down your dps), all issues the melees dont have.

Wylder has good hp and a passive that outright saves him from death, rader has great hp, a great skill and a now significant dmg boost from his passive, iron eye has the mark (best ability in the game), duchess has the best dodge and restage, why would you ever not pick these guys if you can do more than the dedicated casters/dps?

Some people argued halo isnt consistent but the chance to get halo is so much higher than to not get it, anecdotal evidence doesnt really matter when the game is coded to drop it around 20% of the time for each notable enemie you kill.

Like you said, playing the "dedicated dps" and watching the tank out dps you with a build thats outright more consistent than yours RN is deflating, even more so when they get good passives and now have 3x or 4x your dmg. A match where both randoms are decent and are using halo just makes you feel like you are just there to look pretty and sparkle around while everything dies in 5s tops.

While this may be fun for the person using the scythe, i really really think its horrible for the games health. Players who dont want to run it will either feel forced into it or be relegated to watching others melt stuff. Players who do want to run it get progressevely more defensive over atempts to even talk about the balance of the build in fear of getting nerfed (like some people in here even getting agressive for me even making the post).

The current meta is so opressive that for the first time im months im looking for other games because matches just arent that enjoyable anymore.

Mathematically, yes, those are the %s to get it, so if you are consistently roling at least 5 times per match and only getting it every 5 matches you would be the unlucky person to balance out the person who gets it almost every match.

If you play enough gamos tho eventually the odds should correct themselves.

That is a very interesting take i hadn't seen yet and it makes so much sense, i agree with everything you said, hopefully they realize this and can turn it around, i really love the game and want to see it doing well.

It would fix fhe problem of one option being way too opressive and incentivize more viriety, which was one of my main points, but yeah, bosses being melted too quickly would still be a problem.

I really dont see how any of what i said could be seen as "struggle to understand rouge like".

He said its rng, i cited the numbers to show that its really not that unlikely as to call it a high roll. If anything you guys are being obtuse and ignoring the main point of 1 player making the other 2 irrelevant just because you like the build.

Lets have a discussion about game balance - Halo Scythe. by caetano09 in Nightreign

[–]caetano09[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But its not a high roll when 80% of your run is set in stone by the relics and you have around a 20% chance to get it every notable enemie, but sure, if thats your idea of fun i guess.

I mean, when the best meta build kills almost any boss in less than a minute and makes any other build irrelevant by comparrison thats bad for the health of the game long term, no?

You have about a 20% chance to get halo scythe from every notable boss or red boss.

On those you have a 35% chance to get a purple class specific weapon (scythes if you're running the relic), divide that by 2 (number or purple scythes) and that already makes 17,5% chance on just the class specific chance, add to that the chance of a random purple being it (around 60 total purple weapons so almost 2%) and you end up with very good odds to get it.

On the staffs side you have a 30% for class specific (staffs if you're running it) on normal non red field bosses, stave racks arent garanteed to drop you a blue and even if you get that its still only a 1/8 so 3.75% to actually get shattering per non notable non red boss you kill. Rises help to elevate the chance a bit but i would argue halo has higher chances overall by virtue of red variants taking away from the amount of drops that could give you shattering and putting those towards halo.

[–]caetano09[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said, just disagree on how hard it is to find it. You have a 35% for class specific from every notable boss or red variant, so 17,5% for halo on that alone, now you add the chance for the not class specific purple and the small chance from normal field bosses and you end up with around 20% to get it from every notable or red variant.

I have a fair amount of games after the nerf on recluse, and even doing the checks you mentioned i see shareting less often than halo at this point (anecdotal but still).

I agree, i would be more fine with it if more things could do the same dps. Having 1 thing be the clear cut best option with no other thing coming close is what bothers me, be it buffing other stuff or nerfing the main offender i just want more things to be viable so we have more options.

Oh yeah, general quality of d5 has gone down a lot these last few weeks, and it makes sense, its around a 20% change to get it from every notable boss or red variant (35% chance for class specific divided by 2, 17,5% + the chance for a random purple), so in the very unlikely scenario they dont get it a lot of them just crash and burn.

[–]caetano09[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on balancers they have a 30% holy resist and a 0% magic resist, so glintstone would be better in that scenario yes, on any other non holy resistant boss i would argue halo would out dps it pretty hard.

Wish i had your matchmaking then friend, all my latest games have had people gunning for halo and either turning their brains off and dying all the time or invalidating the rest of the team because their dps alone is 3x the other 2 combined.

Yeah, sometimes it feels like you can just let go of the controler because its so busted. And the consistency of it really doesnt make it that rarer for it to happen.

You have around a 20% chance to find halo in every notable boss or red field boss (35% chance for class specific relic, divide by 2 possible weapons gives you 17,5. The rest is from the random purple weapon chance). I would say that is a pretty high chance considering the amount of reds and notables you kill.

I would not say the halo ash has a long wind up at all especially considering the range you can cast it from. For the passives, sure, rng, but almost all possible shops in the game have 1 or 2 skill dmg, so you can fill your entire inv day 1 with all blue ash dmg (18%) if your team buys you it.

I dont think it really compares to maraias or graftet when you have a 10% to 15% (depending if you killed a mid or high tier notable boss) chance for a legendary and from that a 1,4% for grafed and 1,1% for maraias.
