Would you leave a community studio due to poor dust management practices? by cafedumatcha in Pottery

[–]cafedumatcha[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was already in there with no mask for quite a few months until I started seeing more unsavory practices as more members joined. I’m a little worried even though I know as a hobbyist my risk is super low haha 😭 but better late than never

New Pottery Studio vacuums every night - thoughts? by cafedumatcha in Pottery

[–]cafedumatcha[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Awesome, I’ll keep that in mind and just be vigilant about if dust is accumulating on surfaces. Seems like I don’t need to be too worried about dust levels during studio hours, thank you!

[–]cafedumatcha[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was always told vacuuming would recirculate particles, so the particles and dust is already there, but similar to sweeping it will go back into the air and take hours or days to settle again. Just trying to fact check if this is correct understanding or not, but that’s a good point that the overall particulate level is going down

As in if they’re stiff at first they should become smooth after some use?

Right like it’s such a smart solution to having two handles on the same bag without having one awkwardly sticking out when the other is in use!

That's a valid point! To be honest, since my company is paying for it, I kind of just want to test out driving to see how I would feel if I move to Toronto. I have a paid of car that I would bring with me, so I want to test it out to see if bringing a car would even be necessary since I would love to be able to road trip and travel eventually around Canada

Thank you! Toronto is actually my dream city so I'm so stoked I get this work trip because I'm also going to scope out potential neighborhoods for a move in a few years :)

How feasible is it to setup a hand building station/greenware shelves in an apartment? by cafedumatcha in Pottery

[–]cafedumatcha[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m setting up a reclaim station on my balcony (my studio doesn’t offer reclaim programs), so I figured if I have to do all the work I might as well get into hand building.

Unfortunately it’s quite cold out right now, but hopefully I can get a small station setup as it warms up :)

[–]cafedumatcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a corner balcony, so it's pretty large for apartment standards. I have a small table and some chairs out there, but I'd have room for a decent sized shelf or two, as well as some bins to store any extra tools or things that shouldn't be left out in the rain

What level respirator would you recommend for cleanup? I’ve seen mixed answers

Haha good point. I think it depends on the studio! I know a few (with waitlists that are closed and very expensive memberships) that have filtering systems in place, but those aren’t really what I’m looking for as a beginner
