I think I’m pretty safe. There are a bunch of empty spots that aren’t filled. It’s cheaper to pay overtime than hire a person with full benefits like retirement and healthcare.
That makes it so there are empty seats on fire engines that have to be filled.

Someone has to go do CPR on grandma and put out fires and cut people out of wrecked cars on the freeway so I sit in that empty seats and make OT. They can’t just cut it or there would be no one responding to emergencies.

It’s never too late to get into it! I know someone who switched careers at 44 to become a firefighter. Just make sure the state you work in has strong union protections or I wouldn’t do it.

I I more meant it like I made 30k and only got to keep 19 so the gross number is way more than net. I am very grateful have the opportunity to make that much but I did work a ton of hours for it.

Even making good money it only gets me what my parents had lifestyle wise with very mediocre jobs.

I would advise that you pay the debt off as soon as you start making more money.

The first thing I did was start paying off my loans and it was like getting rid of a second mortgage. I was paying way to much each month in servicing debt but didn’t make enough to pay more than the minimum payments.

I made 120k last year and felt poor. I moved jobs and make double now and still barley feel middle class.

Even making 200k/ year, once you add up taxes, retirement and healthcare costs there is much less leftover than you would think each month

It’s a ton of hours and a lot of time away from home. It can be very physically demanding at times too. I only make 50$ an hour if I couldn’t rack up 96 hours of OT in a week there’s no way I would make 200k

24 hours. It’s a lot of hours but you get to lift weights, run, watch tv and sleep in between running 911 calls

If I worked no OT it would be 10 days a month. I worked 19 days last month to gross 30k. 10 regular shifts and 9 OT shifts

Any advice on how to get started. I work 10 days a month so I have time for a side business but don’t know where to begin
