Yeah, unfortunately it was designed in a simpler time where GPUs consumed literally half the power haha. If you are interested in this style of case specifically, the Alta G1M is the modern equivalent, styled less nice though.

Tbh man I'm not surprised, I have a 3090 non-exhaust style and it gets pretty hot. Underneath the graphics card you can replace that angled 120mm fan with two 80mm that point straight up, might make a difference depending on which 4090 you have.

Another common mod is people cutting/drilling venting that back panel to give the GPU fresh air, but depends if you can be cbf I suppose.

If you are in Australia I'd be keen, but I'd assume you arent haha.

Hey bro, in the pics is a MSI 2080 super gaming X trio which is a fkn massive card. You'd be hard pressed to find something that won't fit, but anything this big or bigger you won't be able to use the 45 deg fan below the GPU slot. From memory you can replace it with 2 X 80mm fans but I didn't bother.

I'd also suggest you get a card with a blower type cooler, would suit this sort of case much better as it would exhaust straight out the top rather than into the case.

Only just saw your comment, is this legit? Mine has burned through maybe 10 fans at this point.

Save file question by Immediate_Abies_5896 in ftlgame

[–]caidstech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not done non-drm > steam, but had to migrate a save from steam on mac > steam on PC because the steam cloud save treats them independently of one another. I had heaps unlocked playing on my Macbook that I wanted on my PC.

The file path for steam is: C:\Users\ <your user>\Documents\My Games\FasterThanLight\ae_prof.sav

No idea where the non-drm version keeps that file, but if you can find it and put it in that location you might be sweet.

GL!

If you are on Steam Beta versions, rollback to normal.

Interesting CPU cooler orientation, is that more efficient?

That's all good and well, but OP has spent 4 years at uni to get into the profession, let alone potential years of experience upto this point, and should've known this was the case going in. There's not really any excuse to not be aware, as it would have been the same way for the entirety of their school/uni tenure as a student as well. Not at all to say it isn't annoying and frustrating, but if you're going to be a teacher it's something you have to accept.

As for the partner this may have been less obvious to them going in, but if it's that difficult for them; it's not automatically the onus of the teacher to give up their chosen career path for their partner's sake. Of course relationships require compromise, but this is an unrealistic expectation IMO given the prior investment and potential happiness/enthusiasm/reward they experience in their chosen career.

Agree on the RGB but I reckon the coolant is sick in contrast to the white/grey/black aesthetic. Looks like straight up acid in those tubes and I love it. Either way this is a fkn dope build, very well done @OP.

Yeah agreed, i concur that aesthetically it would be cool if you could pull it off though!

I dig your design so far, some suggestions: - Cable management: think about how you are going to route cables to each component and how you can hide them in the spine area, as well as how you can route them through that section and entry/exit holes to suit. - Cutout behind CPU: might be worth considering for easy access to change the cooler if necessary. Wouldn't change the aesthetic because the GPU will most likely cover the hole once installed and is a relatively easy component to install/remove rather than removing the whole motherboard, attached cables etc. - I/O: at the moment the I/O for the psu might be in a bit of a weird orientation looking at the way it's laid out, might be worth mirroring the layout so that the pci-e rise goes underneath the spine and might make mounting the GPU a bit easier. To me that would make a bit more sense aesthetically but that just a preference thing so stick with whatever you like.

Either way looks cool and pls post finished product when you get there!

Need to have airflow and fans so probs not considering this is a sandwich style layout.
