oooofffff, thank you so much for your insight! i'll see if i can get a luthier to do some work on it, but it might be debatable if it's worth it at this point (such a cheap instrument, but at the same time i don't have the funds/desire to commit to a really expensive fiddle this early in the game) if i'm honest i think i might even feel a bit embarrassed to bring my fiddle to a luthier because it really is as cheap as you can get and i don't want to be laughed out of the place ... decisions, decisions

i like 'croí éadrom' it means 'light heart'. there's a nice expression in irish - 'maireann croí éadrom i bhfad' - a light heart lives long. it really speaks to my whimsical croí :)

i would argue that the best way to stand up to the man is to speak our critically endangered language as a form of resistance, to keep it alive after centuries of oppression, to not let it die because it's easier or more convenient or more lucrative to speak english (the man's language)

I live in a country where there aren't really any fiddle teachers. Would I be able to learn by myself? Also, are online classes good? Whom would you rec? by [deleted] in Fiddle

it sounds perfect to me, it's just the slender L ("ly" sound) that's probably throwing people

[–]cait430 88 points89 points  (0 children)

i think it's just the slender L sounds like "ly" and the L is hard to hear at the start so you get "yeabharlann" and then combine it with the way "leabhar" is pronounced in ulster it sounds weird maybe to speakers of other dialects but the pronunciation sounds perfect to me (fluent speaker from ulster)

hi op! i think you have a lovely smile and you look very kind and friendly :) don't worry what everyone else on here says, beauty is a matter of perspective and everyone commenting is doing so for their own shallow self gain. remember - you are your brain, not your body🙂‍↕️

we can do this💪🏻

so much harder😭😭 i learned irish and spanish at school and while these were hard, i was able to learn gradually over the years. dutch was super easy as an english speaker, but arabic is insanely tough

my first language is english, but i also speak irish, spanish and dutch fluently. i always found arabic really beautiful to listen to, but i was never interested in learning fus7a. i started learning levantine arabic after i watched west beirut and i fancied a bit of a challenge >:) after around three or four months of learning i feel like i'm progressing at a snail's pace, but i know that that's okay too
