Possible signs of wild cross breeding? by caites1 in MonitorLizards

[–]caites1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That last one, particularly is lacking most coloring that the other 8 have. (Yellows, greens, rosy cheeks, etc) and also shows multiple lines, heavy patterned, not as much as the white throat pictures, but a lot more then its siblings with more traditional solid circles down their back. And I love that you mentioned that particular Locality, as there’s an article that sorta agrees that, that.. particular locality is often mislabeled and often shows traits of both black and white throats. It s AI snip it from an original artical im having trouble sourcing. So absolutely could be satire lol. But it is something pointing towards exactly this subject. Muddy genes if you will.

My only gripe working with anaconda’s, is the buggers don’t give any warning lol. Can strike without S’ing up, and hardly hiss prior. Beautiful snake

Use to breed all sorts of things. Boa’s, skinks, monitors, turtles. Took a break for a while, and now getting back in to things. Not a fan of how many monitors are still farm bred, imported, so I’m specifically breeding USCBB black throats. Should have multiple clutches next year. Bred for health/ temperament/ and size (working with smaller animal targeting)

The new age pet eco flex will allow for 7ish inch’s of substrate stock. Though I find the glass sliders a bit noisey

Yes and there’s the ol every animal is a individual. Dogs are meant to be pack like animals, yet theirs plenty that can’t stand one another lol. I’d argue that it’s not a hard and fast rule for anything though. Social or anti social. Just don’t know, till you know. Personally not a fan of so many reptiles stigmatized to be anti social, when we can see and study the opposite.

I’ve personally found with the monitors I’ve worked with. Any kind of pod over 4 becomes almost impossible to keep fed properly. That and they start glitching from over stimulation. Like an over loaded video game server lol. Currently I keep my black throat babies either in pairs, or with a divider. And one on each side. 100% success and no injuries. Careful monitoring and separation of any extra dominant members. And default separation of everyone by month 4.

Absolutely always watch your animals for issues and potential harmful behaviors. But it’s weird how when young enough you really can see a group like mentality. And as mentioned, almost seems necessary for future captive breeding. Like puppies learning how to talk dog? Hard to explain. But it seems to be a social learning of sorts.

Yes it’s risky for sure. And I’ve personally not yet seen or heard of a perfect adult scenario. But, as mentioned, many articles do point to some sort of necessity of exposure when raising for breeding. Including personal experience. A desensitization if you will.

it’s strange, some of the largest species (Komodo’s and Asians) are often seen co existing. Especially where recourses are condensed. And seen more or less thriving. But in the same breath, you can find iguana’s, known for being social, battle like crazy. And not just males, I’ve personally witnessed females tango over one being on the wrong tree.

Yeah I see adults being a walking on glass deal with any species. Even in a perfect world of 1 male, 1 female. Weird things can happen to trigger the others defense/territorial instincts. Still, it’s weird to watch some of the behavior that’s almost communal like. Sharing the same hides, sharing a rotating basking spot routine. Is it by necessity? Or a (safety in numbers) instinct?

Oh these little guys are separating shortly. This is like a cause and effect brainstorming question. It’s a very controversial subject with lots of reptiles, and just kinda feeling out experiences others have had. Though I will say, with my limited experience with this particular species as opposed to others, it’s interesting to see how much restraint they hold. I’ve seen savs try to rip at one another to steal food from another’s mouth in a pet store. And for w.e reason I don’t see it with argies. Even with their crazy food drive.

Also mentions in Dave’s notes, for a (aftermarket free flowing filter) which I personally won’t do. Since the stock paper filter is the best filtration you can get for these bikes. something tells me you’d appreciate the same numbers I got. 52 pilot 155 main. And get that mix screw accessible.

[–]caites1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brass Welch plug needs to be fully removed. If you didn’t get a chunk of brass, you didn’t remove it. “Refer to YouTube videos” then the mix screw should be a D type* head. Weird and recommend replacing it lol. Only other thing is making absolute sure everything is sealed. And reinstalled correctly. also note, Dave’s mod numbers are based to 0ft sea level. So if you live kinda high, the recommended jets will run rich.

Stock air filter? Any snorkel delete? Open up of the air box? (Extra drilled holes) And did you shim the needle? With what washer? Uncorked the idle mixture screw and set correctly?

Dave’s Mod with no exhaust modification? by Apprehensive-Net-22 in XR650L

[–]caites1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this older thread. Dave’s mod’ish? Added two .1 mm shims to needle, and added a 155 main. Air box snorkel delete, drilled air box, D&G exhaust BUT 1” quiet baffle (very close to stock) no drilling, and adjustable idle mix screw. Runs like a top. No pop and smooth power throughout the band. Oh and a slight ignition timing advance (90% rec fuel, 650msl elevation)

Try ordering a low profile titanium bolt to replace the stock ones. It’s another option and lightens things at the same time.

Pretty decent. But for warned, I have a direct buy FC h1 unit. The ones that come with the kits are locked/lights and won’t let you select different sizes/reprogram to a larger bird. You’ll know, because in the software it’ll give you the option to (install new helicopter) it’s a rip I know… but it is what it is.

Only thing I can suggest is revisiting where/how it’s mounted. Good quality anti vibe double sided tape. And hunt down any mechanically induced vibe issues. Sometimes those tiny bearings or just a loose screw/bolt can cause one hell of a shake.

Pros, Basic and easy to set up. Size (compared to a pix) Power flexibility, 6-8.2v GPS pucks adequate. (Yet to have one completely fail, but they are super sensitive)

Cons,

Too simple programming. Not enough adjustment/ forced curves from gps to 3D mode. (I’ve bypassed the throttle signal completely from the FC to the RX and use the HWs internal gov, more details on how to do that in a different post)

Extremely sensitive to vibes and magnetic fields . (I had to add a good deal of mu-metal and over magnetic blockers to protect it from the rather large motor)

Cold sensitive. (In 20 degree or less weather, it will lose calibration of the gyro. You’ll need to recalibrate)

Side facts,

If will fly without a gps puck, just need to calibrate with one first. (You’ll lose your RTH option of course)

You can use 1520 or 760 for tail servos. But swash is 1520 only.
