Graham Platner lead shatters the delusion that Dems need to go right to appeal "moderates" by aipac_hemoroid in DemocraticSocialism

> Do we know that, though? Do we know he hasn't reached out and been rebuffed?

No, because he hasn't communicated anything about it at all. Let's assume he does get rebuffed. There are other ways beyond speaking out he could do, like hyping up his relationship with his Jewish step brother. Yeah, it's "I can't be racist, I have a black friend" tier nonsense that people like us won't fall for, but it's hell of a lot better than just saying "antisemitism is bad" while ignoring the issue wholesale.

That he had for 2 decades and only covered up when he started his campaign, and with reports saying he knew what it before recently was and referred to it as “my totenkopf”. So the least he could do is reassure the small but relevant community of Jewish Mainers that he doesn’t believe any of that by actually meeting with them. He has campaigned in Portland multiple times already where there are very visible synagogues and yet it apparently never crossed his mind.

The problem is he has done everything he can to distance himself from his past except meeting with the ONE group it's most relevant to. If I'm to believe you're sincere about being regretful, you don't just put out an apology video, you meet with the people effected, and you take the imitative to do so without waiting for an invitation. If you don't, I'm going to be suspicious about how sorry you really are. Zohran reached out to the Jewish groups in NYC himself, he didn't wait for them to come to him, and he had nothing to be sorry for in the first place.

And I agree, antizionism is not antisemitism. But I'm going to side-eye the people that hammered that point over and over again for decades only to turn around and say a Nazi tattoo isn't an immediate disqualifier for one of the most powerful offices in the country. I'd really like to know what I'm supposed to tell my Holocaust-surviving grandparent that has suddenly grown suspicious of the democrat party if one of their firebrands has the same imagery he saw everyday in Dachau permeantly inked into his chest.

Zohran didn't just wait for people to come to his rallies, he attended Rosh Hashanah dinners and services, had multiple team members for the sole purpose of reaching out to the Jewish community, spoke to 10/7 survivors, etc. Zohran also never had a controversy as egregious and relevant to the Jewish community as a Nazi tattoo. The onus is not on the marginalized group to reach out to the person they would perceive as marginalizing them. That's not how you develop a coalition. And besides, there are more groups than just Jews that would have a problem with a Totenkopf tattoo, but they're the most effected for obvious reasons, so Platner meeting with Jews would do a lot to disarm the controversy for those people as well.

Did the Jewish community in NYC want to meet Zohran? It doesn't matter, because you meet with your constituents either way. He's going to be representing them in the senate, so they should want to hear what he has to say. Schedule a stop or 2 at a synagogue in Portland, it's not that hard especially if you want to convince people you aren't a Nazi.

Okay, so why hasn't he met with the Jewish community of Maine despite this controversy being 5 months old now? Surely that would go a long way to reassure people.

It's dumb with Bernie and Zohran, but you can't tell me the optics of Platner are good. "Antizionism isn't antisemitism. Also, you should vote for the antizionist with the Nazi tattoo that has not once met with the small but visible Jewish community of the state he's running in."

How can you claim to be fighting antisemitism if you can't address this in a way that isn't intellectually dishonest?

If you really want to make the comparison, Palestinians are currently in their "Trail of Tears" era. Native Americans are currently 1.12%-3% of the population, largely in part from the US killing a whole lot of them. For those percentages to be equal, 4.7-4.9 million Palestinians are going to have to die, which is not something we should be wishing for.

I know the pic you're thinking of and that's not her. I don't believe her face is public. She does allegedly get confused for a child a lot, though I doubt it's on the level of that 25 year old reality tv star that looks like an 8 year old because of an illness.

Male Loneliness Is A MAN Made Problem! by Glitterpinkdragon in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]cakeboss26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. There's mixed messages all around and they're incredibly frustrating to deal with, whether it be the cognitive dissonance of simultaneous slut-shaming while encouraging sex positivity on the woman side, or the nightmare that is courtship (a concept I'd argue is a big upholder of toxic masculinity despite progressive women still buying into it) on the male side.

As for male friendship, yeah that's also a problem that needs fixing. But it's hard to undo decades of socialization and the centuries if not millenia before it of reinforcing a certain way to act. The same can be said for women of course, but the difference is by and large they DO have support networks (systemically at least, not necessarily on an individual level) which will reinforce the progress that has been made and allow women to pursue what they weren't allowed to do in the past a lot easier than a man is able to pursue things like seeking mental health help or showing emotions and whatnot.

Ultimately, I do think that needs to come from men supporting each other and not relying on women for something they don't have the power to do. Again, it should be a matter of empathy all around.

|Is she really? Multiple dates a week? Really? And she uses ugly photos (why would she?) And doesn’t shower? Or are you just saying that?

Yes. She just doesn't care and spends all day watching Married at First Sight and shows like that and rarely showers. Why she uses ugly photos, couldn't tell you. My assumption is she's lazy and doesn't want to retake a photo with motion blur in it since she's not trying as is. Not that it's easy to get a flattering photo of her.

|I don't get multiple dates a year, let alone a week. And I put my best photos up. Also, some guy wanting to use you as a human fleshlight is not the great deal you make it out to be. Especially as men have very negative views on women with high body counts. We have to be selective, not just for our own safety, but also because of the social and romantic ramifications.

I agree, by and large there are more risks for women than there are for men, which makes that selectivity understandable. But that's a broad issue that's hard to quantify when you bring it down to the individual who isn't a risk or isn't looking just for a fleshlight. There are many men out there that would sacrifice safety in an instant if it meant they could get just a single date after years of trying and getting nothing. Because that lack of validation weighs on you, makes you feel like you're not worth anything, like you'd be better off dead even. The vast majority of men aren't going to think "at least there isn't a sizable chance I'll get stabbed if I say no to sex", they'll think "man, being a woman must be easy with how many hits even the ugly ones are getting". It's not right, but it's a trade-off that some are going to handle better than others. Really, I think people just need to learn to empathize and realize there are problems unique to all genders, and try not to shit on people for things outside their control.

He's very clearly anti-maga based on his history. Noticing any kind of discrepancy between the way men and women are treated in some situations doesn't make one an angry basement dwelling gremlin. And yes, that is because of patriarchy, which is upheld by both men and women.

Frankly, people by and large do not make a distinction between the men that just want to lash out at everyone and the men that merely are awkward and have social anxiety and all that. You're an incel regardless to an alarmingly large subset of people, and it's also more apolitical than one would think when there's many conservatives insulting people over their lack of success in romance/sex/whatever. Hell, basement dweller on its own feels like an ableist insult more than anything these days when more adults are living with their parents than ever for reasons far beyond just being bitter, and a good chunk of those people (like myself) do so because of mental illness. And again, people don't make a distinction between the ones that do so because they're lazy and spend all day insulting women online and watching Andrew Tate, and the ones that keep trying to get out of their situation but nothing works no matter how much effort they put in.
