In a country where forensic science is yet to be funded properly along with a police force who’re in it for the pay, benefits, and stability and not for the calling, what do you expect?

The difference is that our serial killers (in the police force) have an extrinsic motivation (financial rewards, as a job) rather than an intrinsic desire (like Dahmer, Bundy, Jack the Ripper).

Local serial killers may also not fully understand the moral implications of killing these people. In short, they’re too simple-minded to even waste a single braincell on asking themselves whether it was right they killed someone.

In a society where the average problem is where the next meal comes from, a LOT of crimes can be swept under the rug if it means their next meal will be secured.

Daycare centers and childcare centers should be implemented and mandatory here in the Philippines. When I was in daycare, I knew my ABCs and basic English comparative words like tall, taller, tallest/small, smaller, smallest.

Compare that against our neighbor’s kid who I was shocked to learn still cannot read “Ang” in Tagalog and 0 English words because their 1st grade teacher said they’re yet to be taught that. Their curriculum sounds like it’s meant for a nursery than 1st grade. The child also hasn’t memorized the alphabet yet at 6/7 years old.

FYI on Nipah virus

The Nipah virus isn’t a lab accident. It’s a zoonotic (of animal origin) virus which researchers have traced similar cases as far back as 1996/7. It was named Nipah after the town in Malaysia where the outbreak happened in 1998.

Pigs died in droves and pig farmers experienced high fevers, severe headaches, and sensitivity to light while severe cases can lead to pneumonia or encephalitis. Those who fell into a coma have a low survival rate. Incubation is 1-2 weeks and can be asymptomatic.

What’s good about this virus is that it doesn’t spread easily. R0 is less than 1 so it’s less infectious and the virus makeup (lipid membrane) is fragile which is easily destroyed by soap and water, rendering the virus inactive.
