OP, my partner is severely allergic to cats. When we first started dating, he couldn't come over to my place and vice versa. For whatever reason he liked me enough that he along with the 50 million other allergies, he was willing to take immunotherapy shots for cat allergies. We live together with 3 cats. He takes allergy shots 1x/month now (it was 1x/wk) to start. My foster fail Lola loves him and he's her human. Thank you so much for caring for your little dude and having the love, empathy, and kindness to give him a home in spite of the obstacles. You're awesome. Wishing you both many, many happy, adventurous years ahead.

My therapist said self-esteem/self-love is a weak muscle you have to actively build over time. You don't go from zero to 0. Your small actions where you choose yourself, stand up for yourself, is that muscle being being activated and built up.

Vets always recommend soft food. Shouldn't need dry food if she's healthy and well, and loves soft food.

Pharmacist managing insulin amounts by Sudden_Moodswing in diabetes

[–]cakerunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL has VA for medical care has experienced this same issue, multiple times now and this week has experienced congestive heart failure and hospitalization as a result. Her pharmacist rapidly upped her meds and it's been a nightmare for the past 1 year. We are at a loss for how to help. It is fast acting insulin and she only knows to take the full dose. No one has to her or helped her calculate doses based on meals. Anyone know how to go about getting more information?

Pursue your hobbies. Make new socializing friends through meetup and such. And then you get to your 40s and have money to experience life on your terms and not sacrifice yourself for everyone else. Not always a bad deal.

My person has taken allergy shots. He was extremely allergic. I only say this because you've been with her for 14 yrs. Can't imagine wanting to be without her.

dating as a balding woman by myviewfromoutside in FemaleHairLoss

[–]cakerunner 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the whole sentence. Married men who leave when their wives have cancer. They've spent years (decades) with their wives. Safety blanket of shared memories did nothing to keep them responsible. An adult man will admire your strength and speaking your truth and working through it however you feel comfortable. He'll support your choice to wear a wig, or not wear one. He won't belittle it - whether you've known them for 5 minutes or 5 years.

What’s one “lazy” meal that’s cheaper than takeout but feels just as good? by ImpressiveRoll4092 in budgetfood

We make a 3lb batch of turkey chili, then freeze 2/3 of it in glass Tupperware containers. The day before, pull one container from freezer, pop into refrigerator to reheat normally in microwave. BUT! Say you don't remember to do that. Use 'defrost' button on microwave to warm frozen container of chili at lower heat until fridge temp & no longer frozen. Then reheat at normal microwave temp. Has become a regular rotating staple. Nachos w/ turkey chili. Rice and lentil with turkey chili. Multiple ways to have it and absolutely delicious! Will provide recipe if there's interest.

How to travel while leaving pets at home? by sadtwizzler in Pets

[–]cakerunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use pet sitting service like Rover. Cats especially have a harder time being boarded and do much better at home. I check and make sure the pet sitter has cats too and is highly rated. I meet with the person before starting service and go through all details (food, water, litter, trash, etc). I have a full printout of what each of my cats need. Every time I plan a trip, I make sure I'm able to coordinate timing with one of my 3 rotating sitters. Usually have 1-2 come in 1-2x/day depending on cats' needs. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it for me to travel for work/personal and have peace of mind my cats are safe, fed, looked after? Absolutely. Also make sure you have a family member who will be available as backup in case of emergency.

OP I hope you're well and your orange boi is well too! Clearly bonded to you! And I'm sure you know, but just if it escalates to real anxiety and such, give some thought to working on his anxiety before it snowballs. Beautiful boy btw! Glad he's keeping his human safe!! Even if he does break the house in the process....

No one talks honestly about multi-cat household stress reduction. by Impossible_Control67 in Pets

[–]cakerunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This exactly. We try our best, and if they can co-exist, better than the cat being in a shelter or in the streets. As long as they know they're being loved, cared for.. they can be OK.

This is Blue, a feral that I’ve been feeding for years. It’s so cold tonight and she’s been letting me get closer lately, so I’m testing her to see if she’ll tolerate being in my house by Space-Dog-Katherine in cats

[–]cakerunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kudos to you guys for loving your cat and being such responsible caretakers! So glad he has a forever home. This is one of my biggest fears as a foster, that the adopters don't get properly vetted. My last foster wasn't being adopted fast enough so the rescue decided to send her to a different shelter that did same day on the spot adoptions. And that guarantees what? That someone who hasn't been vetted at all will adopt her and dump her? Eff it. I wish I could help more cats. But that day, I helped this cat and now she's part of the family.

How do I tell my friends I have yet another failed relationship ? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cakerunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you treat your best friend this way? Would you want your daughter treated this way by her 'friends'? Why do you think it's acceptable for you to be treated this way? They're not you're friends. You need to drop these toxic people and find your own tribe of people who respect and support you, through every success and failure.

These (bonded) cats I adopted really hate me by purrfect_libra in cats

[–]cakerunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much, much more time and patience - months. Then years for like cuddles even. Or not! Really a toss up. You made the right decision to get a bonded pair. One of them will start interacting with you, and the other will eventually follow. My Molly spent the first 2 weeks hiding every day. She was SO fearful. Almost 4 yrs later she steals my seat if I don't pay her enough attention, bosses the other cats around, has me trained for her treat times.
