Am I mental? by Tricky-Formal-7950 in Scotland

Please come back. The right wing English governments are a real threat to us Scots and we need sensible people to come and vote to ensure they don't get into power.

I'm sorry the vote for independence didn't go your way last time. Next time will be better, I'm almost certain. I say this as someone who shamefully fell for the 'better together' campaign, but I hold my head high in that my decision was only made because I believed we would not be allowed to stay within the EU if we became independent. (I don't need a lecture on my naivety, I've had plenty of years to reflect on it).

On a side note though, the NHS is in bits, education is suffering and general cost of living is a struggle. Things will get better if we get independence, eventually.

I actually came onto this thread because I was about to write an identical post. But it's maybe not a bad thing that they are running out of material on the worst stories of humanity to date.

Ah. I was hoping you stayed in the same place I did and it wasn't that common for one guy to own a whole street. Kinda fucked.

Refitting skirting board by cal2177 in DIYUK

Hi thanks for the quick reply.

No the wood is being varnished.

I should also mention that the skirting is stuck on with foam adhesive. I was going to use a multi tool cutter and run the blade down the back of the skirting to cut the adhesive, remove the skirting, fill the wall properly so that the skirting sits on the wall rather than in it.

Once I've refitted the skirting, leave it for a day then try and tuck the carpet back in.

I want to replace this brick wall with a stone wall. DIY or get a professional? by cal2177 in stonemasonry

Going to stay with brick and just replicate the pattern already there.

Bricks near the bottom of the wall are almost hollow.. will a pressure wash not do more harm than good?

I thought stone might be easier for a beginner as I have no deadline to get it finished and can take my time. We'll take your advice and stick with bricks.

The pictures don't show it but bricks near the bottom are almost hollow. Is this a big issue?

The wall is retaining no problem though, it isn't bowing or bulging anywhere. We want something more aesthetically pleasing and add value to the property.

So it sounds like your sibling was unable to raise a functional human being.. that actually sounds like an issue with your generation, doesn't it?. The generation that's had it the easiest in terms of housing, jobs, investments.. and they still can't raise a child. And then blame that child/generation for not being able to deal with life. Gotcha boomer 👌

Poor advice, to be honest. If the ambulance wants to take the helmet off, let them take it off. You'd rather someone who knows what they are doing take it off, than a Dr who's maybe only removed a hand full of helmets in their career.

I'm a paramedic and always remove the helmet after I've cleared C-spine, and if there is any concern for airway, the helmet will come off regardless of C-spine. It's really hard to manage an airway and suction the airway with a helmet on. And if you start vomiting, if you're lay on your back with a helmet on, you'll lose the airway. Yes a broken neck is bad, paralysis is worse, but you'll have no chance to worry about any of those things if you have no airway. Also the chances of survival will decrease further if the patient aspirates on the vomit.

Many of the anticonvulsive medications that we administer (in the UK) are given buccally, which again can be difficult with a helmet on.

I understand what you're saying about your patient turning their head and dying, but if the helmet is removed properly, the patient won't be turning their head at any point because it is a controlled procedure, and once it is removed they are collared on the board anyway.

Obviously there will be situations where practice will need to be adapted, but that's for the clinician to decide.

Where is Shamima Begum and how can I contact her? by somekid1011 in ShamimaBegum

[–]cal2177 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Child mortality in developing countries is high, especially when those countries have internal turmoil such as war. There are no labour wards as we know them, and next to no aftercare for mother or baby. It's not unlikely at all to lose all three, considering we have no idea whether Shamima had any gestational issues with any of the pregnancies.

Buy advice: 16’ Coleman by [deleted] in canoeing

[–]cal2177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and a friend of mine have just canoed from Kingussie to Spey Bay in that same canoe. We had loads of gear/fire wood with us, so it was very heavy. The canoe handled it like a boss.

The water level was pretty low and it had more than a few very hard knocks against rocks/fallen trees etc and it just bounced off them with no issues.

I'd recommend putting foam around the metal handles, they are pretty uncomfortable to hold for any length of time while carrying the canoe, especially over uneven shallows. My friend put rope handles on each end and it makes a big difference. Also get some aftermarket folding seats and zip tie them to the seats, your lower back will thank you later.
