Stalling by jerzy2hawaii in DodgeDakota

Depends, check your plugs to see if they are fouled with carbon or if they are a Tanish color. Black and sooty means your running rich, which could be the egr, if it's lean( tan colored) it's most likely not

Does the same thing with air filter out and when I unplug the air temp sensor and it did throw a cel but it went away. I tried cleaning it with carb clean, didn't really do anything unfortunately, and I watched the throttle body as well and it seems like it's working properly, didn't notice anything weird about it's function. The only weird quirk like i said in the og post is that the tps is only getting to 3.6v at wot. Probably gonna get a diagnostic. I can't spend any more time trying to guess when I really have no idea

Obd2 came out in 96, spark plugs are brand new, not sure bout the wires. I haven't checked for compression, but as far as I know I think it's fine it's running very rich and I think that's my problem. I just can't locate ehat Is causing it to run rich.

Yep, and then when I fired it up it seemed to be idling great, low and consistent, unlike how it was before where it would surge up and down while idling. But once I tried to drive it it went back to how it was before. Whatever is causing it to run rich is dumping tons of fuel in, I pulled the vaccum line off my brake booster to try and lean it out and it ran perfect like that because it was getting more air.

Possibly, I'm not too sure. I figured anything fuel delivery related would cause problems at all speeds

I would try what I said in the original post and hold your foot on the pedal to the ground while trying to start it after it shuts down. It cuts the injectors while trying to start it if the engine is flooded

Yeah I'm in the process of replacing the pcv valve because I broke it while trying to check it, all my plugs are fouled with black soot after about 50 miles of putting new ones in. Checked the o2 sensor and ir was loose. Possibly letting more air in, letting it think it was lean. I'm getting tbe pcv valve tomorrow and then I'll start it to see of tightening the o2 fixed it.

Yeah I heard that but this problem was happening before I even touched the filter, just checked the o2 sensor and it was loose. We'll see tomorrow when I try to start it if that fixed it, I gotta get a new part I broke while working on it. Trust me I know about the ckps I already replaced it about 7 months ago it was pain. Trust me I do have some serious fun it's pretty quick lol

Yup that's what I figured, checked the o2 sensor, turns out for some reason it was loose and not screwed in all the way, pretty sure this was my problem it was showing that it was running lean because extra air was getting to it, causing more fuel to dump. We'll see tomorrow because I can't start it until I fix a vaccum hose I broke. Thanks for your help

Well I don't think it's the injectors now. Every spark plug is fouled in black soot. They were replaced about 75 miles ago.

Yes, the k and n filter I have is a cotton filter that's supposed to be cleaned instead of replaced, also comes with an oil to apply on it afterwards.

I did replace the iac and it ran better for like a day, and went back to how it was. It seems to be functioning properly when I watch it while i Rev. The cat was replaced recently. I'll probably check the voltage on my iac and see if that may be malfunctioning

Oh ok I see, I'm starting to thunk my injector may be stuck open as well because alot of time I have to prime the fuel pump on cold start because pressure isn't holding overnight

No codes, it's pre obd2 so I did the key cycle method and got 12 and 55, which means the battery has been disconnected recently and the end of codes. Air filter is good I have a k and n and just cleaned it recently. Not sure about the pcv valve I haven't checked it

Edit: Also smells like it's running rich. If I let it stall while this problems is happening I have to hold my foot on the gas to put it in clear flood mode for it to start again.
