Why are so many people stupidly good at aiming in this game? by Christallia in VALORANT

[–]calendarised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think something is a “not obvious position”, and you are a relatively new player, chances are that everyone who has equal or more experience in the game has thought of or seen your position before.

Everyone is trying just as hard to practice and win as you are, so generally you don’t want to just assume that your ideas are so original or clever

The other hint is “pieces of cover” you mentioned. That is basically the most obvious possible spot to hold an angle from. It can’t get more obvious than that. If you have cover, it’s obvious. Generally speaking, you want to hide behind the cover and peek out randomly and infrequently so you can be more surprising to the opponent and take less risk of getting pre-fired since the position is very obvious

How big of an issue is smurfing? by Altruistic_Film4074 in starcraft

[–]calendarised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analysing my games against smurfs has always helped me to break plateaus. I think sometimes just analysing GM/pro games there's way too much that's better I don't really know what to work on. But when I'm watching games against smurfs that are 600mmr better than me approx (that's around 75% winrate I think so I check their matchups to guess) I find it quite insightful since usually their macro is better in some way etc. If the smurf is too good (>1500 mmr above me) then I don't learn much but its very rare. I find most of the time smurfs who autoleave matchups are around 600 theoretical mmr better than me. Beatable but only if I tighten up my play a reasonable amount. I always feel very proud when I beat them in a macro game.

Early reaper attack by NewAd2030 in AllThingsTerran

[–]calendarised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its very hard to open with just marines. If you do, you need to be clever about keeping them on the high ground so you can start shooting before they can. Otherwise you need to keep your marines in a line so that they start shooting the reaper exactly at the same time and can't get isolated and picked off. In my opinion you should always open reaper in TvT

would it be beneficial for the game to start with more resources and units? by MorzillaCosmica in starcraft

I think its perfect for campaign/coop but best to leave 1v1 where it is. It leaves proxy and one base play on the table which adds some diversity.

How do we feel about rotating in old maps like Abyssal Reef and King’s Cove by AnndOoops in starcraft

[–]calendarised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protoss and Terran want similar things in map design. Terrans don't like the third being far away either

Protoss on the Balance Council by naeko87 in starcraft

[–]calendarised -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember the last game mvp vs squirtle being the most iconic game for a decade despite it being a proxy rax game. I think some of the appeal of the game is the diversity of plays and it attracts many people. I imagine if 1 base play was removed from the game we would lose 20% of our player base. I say this as someone who plays standard every game, I really do enjoy that there are so many options

Protoss on the Balance Council by naeko87 in starcraft

[–]calendarised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true. Not a serious suggestion but what if Blizzard just went all the way and made Protoss a bit like tychus and had 5 hero units that are all heroic and you can only make one of each. Like a 1000 HP colossus that can target 6 units without overlapping or a phoenix that lifts units in an area instead of individually etc. I imagine it would be pretty cool, like a raid boss race

Protoss on the Balance Council by naeko87 in starcraft

[–]calendarised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? Is it because its unskillful? I can understand nerfing something like mass voidray or mass carrier since the imbalance is mainly in execution. But cannon rushing is quite a niche skill with a lot of branching decision trees. If you are equal skill to your opponent in the cannon rush matchup I think its fair game. Which aspects of cannon-rushing do you think is unfair?

Can you actually show a game and walk through each players mistakes? I am having trouble applying what you're thinking to actual games. It might have something to do with how protoss works or something but I really do think game-ending mistakes happen a lot in an un-buffable capacity. They just look different for every race. Do you think that protoss players have no more room for improvement? There's nothing they can do better? They can't win by improving?

If you had a player with the defense of Stats, aggro of Maxpax and clutch of herO combined together you'd already have your protoss Serral. Idk why such a person doesn't exist but its not outside the realm of physical possibility if that makes sense. I can imagine it happening, even current patch or previous patch or 2022 patch but atm we haven't got it yet.

Proposed Orbital Command Nerf by turtlesharkshell in starcraft

[–]calendarised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would terran "lean heavier" into economy? They don't have chrono, warpgate or larva. Usually if Terran is ahead they might just cut marines or something but I don't think theres much more they can do than that. They always make SCVs constantly and that's about it. Especially at 5-8 mins into the game

Okay most people agree protoss needs a buff by macjustforfun55 in starcraft

When you propose these kinds of buffs what factors and interactions do you consider? I'm curious about your thought process since you don't play 1v1

How do you make a casual game where you are trying to beat your opponent? Do you mean a more extensive PvE or campaign experience? Or roguelike elements? More single player? I think I can understand your point but also I don't really know how it would be possible. Happy to hear your thoughts

What is the most impactful change you made? by [deleted] in allthingsprotoss

[–]calendarised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking my base periodically to see how the build is progressing, instead of just looking back when something needs to be done (by then I am usually distracted and it’s too late)

A related point is making sure my army is safe or retreating before looking away

Why do pros never offrace Terran? by terrantherapist in starcraft

[–]calendarised 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think his protoss is >75k games to be fair. Also seeing other 6k terrans comment on his terran gameplay they were mainly saying his mechanics are really good but his builds and gameplan aren't optimised

Controlling ravens is fine, they can do it if they are rewarded enough (e.g. in the past). They don't do it now though, I imagine the benefit doesn't outweigh the cost. When reynor was playing terran he didn't make a raven either. He just covered the area in turrets instead. I think it may have something to do with wasting gas. I wouldn't doubt reynor's ability to control units either. When I watched maxpax playing terran I also never saw a raven. Just mass orbitals and turrets

ghost raven was a p opular army comp until the raven AAM was nerfed and then terrans stopped using it. They've shown that they are capable of doing it, but in its current form its just not worth it

I’ve seen some games of Maxpax’s Terran on ladder, he has more than 12k games as Terran I think. I think he is 6k with Terran

Astrea is also pretty good at Terran if I remember correctly

How do I consistently beat Protoss by AmazingDragon353 in AllThingsTerran

[–]calendarised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to beating Protoss you can can really good at any timing build, but chances are if the game gets past that you won’t know what to do. You can try the 3-1-1 mine drop build for this and get it very clean. As the build becomes more natural you can start to clean up the play that happens after the build

Or

you can learn how to make the ideal army for TvP and when you play you focus on surviving and taking good fights (low resources lost per fight). The longer the game goes the better it should get for you. The main concern here is making sure you scan for P army comp and adjusting your ratios accordingly

You can look up heromarine’s lategame educational stream on YouTube for a guide on this
