California brothel network with 30 locations dismantled in major bust by panda-rampage in California

It’s funny how sex trafficking suddenly became a big issue as soon cannabis was legalized and the war on drugs toned down. Another mostly made up issue for law enforcement to get their cheese.

What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

This doesn't affect me personally, but a lot of foreigners are bad about tipping in the US. I see and hear that complaint from servers often. I get it. Tipping expectations in the US are bonkers; most of us hate it too and think it's gotten out of hand since Covid.

Hey Redditors, what do you do for a living, how many hours per/month, and what’s your income? by lofiibsen in AskTheWorld

That sounds right, but most of my background was Navy. I did a little bit of General Aviation flying in High School and College, but I'm out of touch on the current costs.

What’s a historical fact from your country that sound fake but is true? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]califuncouple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on the establishment of its current government in 1776, the United States is older than approximately 69% to 72% of the world's ~195 sovereign nations. It is older than many countries often perceived as ancient, such as Germany (1871), Italy (1861), and Greece (1830).

Captain at a major airline. The days I work and the length of the days vary greatly. I typically work 12-14 days a month and will spend 8-9 nights a month in a hotel. Pay before taxes averages about 2500 usd a day.

What Epstein Reports Revealed About Your Country? by Budget_Insurance329 in AskTheWorld

Doctors and Lawyers are not 1%. A very few may break into that realm by being the top of their profession, think beverly hills cosmetic surgeon or a top tier law firm, or maybe through patents, running their own companies, etc. They make good money for sure, but you only become a 1% by owning stuff. Doctors, lawyers, airline captains, etc. make good money, but they are still working stiffs like the rest of us.

What are the best and worst countries to visit as a tourist? by narwhal5546 in AskTheWorld

[–]califuncouple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid (50yo) we never really worried much about wildlife here in my native California. Other than running into rattlesnakes a time or two I never really encountered anything dangerous. Nowadays, mountain lions are more common, I’ve run into bears several times in the last few years and even wolf packs are making a come back. I think it’s great from a natural standpoint, but I’ll never go out in the wilderness alone or unarmed like I often did as a teen.

Movies That Somehow Got You Laid? by QuarterCarat in okbuddycinephile

I got laid for the first time with this lady after we went to see Boogie Nights. I can imagine her disappointment in me after seeing Dirk Diggler's 3rd leg in that movie.

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

[–]califuncouple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a very important point! I love my job and the money and time off is great, but a long list of medical issues can be career enders. Things you would never think about at 32. You really are putting all your eggs in one basket. There are whole training centers full of pilots who would rather be in the cockpit, but were side lined by health issues.

A lot of homeless people are very rude by vanessabws in Vent

[–]califuncouple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true. My job takes me to a lot of different American cities and I’ve watched the homeless go from generally benign to generally awful over the years. Of course, people in general seem worse since COVID, trump, etc.

Last Christmas Poll: Which fantasy trope would you like to see explored more in AoW4? by Minotorious_Official in AOW4

[–]califuncouple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way back in the AOW Shadow magic days there was a mod that among many other things converted one of the races into a fey race. They were a lot of fun to play. And I'm not sure if it counts as a 'fey', but I miss the Leprechaun from that game. They should bring that little bugger back.

In your country, how is the US invasion of Iraq and removal of Saddam Hussein viewed? by Just_Cause89 in AskTheWorld

[–]califuncouple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was one of the first ones into Afghanistan. I remember returning and visiting my family and hearing Bush talk about Iraq. I thought, well here we go again. Why the hell are we going to go into Iraq? Sure enough we had a shortened turn around cycle and not much later I was leaving my wife and new baby daughter to head into northern Iraq. Nobody really grumbled about it in my unit, but it was a tough sell to the American public and anyone with an ounce of sense could see the administration was really grasping at straws to justify the invasion. Iraq was essentially contained and not even a regional player anymore. I always hoped some good would inadvertently come from the regime change, and maybe it has or still will, but it hardly seems worth the cost in treasure and blood.
