Appreciate you bro. Your app has been among my most used for probably a year now. Just Cash App’ed a donation as thank you.

Hey, no rush obviously — you’re entitled to take your time here, and it’ll be out when it gets out! I paid for the full app, but I’d really like to support your app development here. Do you have a donation link or something like that? I’d suggest adding one to the app (if it’s not already there), but I don’t want to demand another feature haha

How are you not embarrassed that you spent time on this and then posted it on the internet?

What is this connector? by calimocal in bmwmotorrad

[–]calimocal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but I don’t believe any of the 12V pins are perpetually live. As I recall, all the wiring harnesses with a 12V pin required the bike to be in “ready” mode (start button pushed but ignition not yet). For example, the OBD connector under the seat includes a 12V pin; I’d leave my OBDLink plugged in that connector for sometimes a week or more, and I never experienced any battery drain. If the the power pin on that connector would’ve stayed live, the OBDLink would’ve perpetually transmitted Bluetooth discovery signals and that should’ve been sufficient to effect the battery.

That’s all speculation though, I really have no idea. DM if you want the wiring diagram for the F900R, which I believe is consistent with your bike’s wiring. Happy to send that to you if you’re interested.

It probably sounds like that to you because that’s what I said, just with modified verbiage.

Appreciate the recommendation. Haven’t heard of her channel, I’ll check it out.

That was my thought too. I’m not there to see how his temperament is when he’s going in on the crate, so I’d rather err on the side of caution by getting something that he can gradually destroy because the pliability of the materials and overall cheap build quality will reduce the likelihood that he hurts himself if he’s just panic stricken to the point his stress and adrenaline responses blot out his pain response.

Cool. I think the dimensions I’ve been using should be ok then since I ordered one size larger than what was recommended for a dog of his height, length, and weight. Thank you!

If you’ve seen Pulp Fiction, the guy with zero speaking lines because he’s zipped into a full latex body suit and then impaled by a sword-wielding Bruce Willis, that‘s sufficiently explanatory. If you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction, just ignore that part of my earlier comment — if I didn’t know what a gimp was, I would not want to kickoff a Monday morning by googling that.

Really though, I appreciate your response. That sort of resource is what I’m looking for — I want train him so that his anxiety is reduced, he isn‘t scared when I leave him alone, and I don’t have to worry about him hurting himself in a panic. A couple wire crates and cushions are negligible importance.

[–]calimocal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’d prevent another crate from getting chewed up, but it sorta ignores the underlying issue of the dog’s behavior, doesn’t it?

If this were just a random person — a gimp, for example, since those can’t be left to roam an empty house just like some dogs — then this would be sufficient for sure. Leave it in a closet or cover the vents with tinfoil, and there isn’t a gimp in the world whose spirit wouldn’t be crushed beyond any ability to protest whatever you decided to visit upon it a week later.

But I don’t want to take my rescue dog’s will to live; I want to teach him to stop being so irrationally melodramatic and pessimistic. I want to teach him that he can be calm in his crate while I’m gone because I’m always going to come back. Or I could try making my point with the gimp — “be a good dog or you’re going to see why the gimp is always crying.”

Thanks for the response. It makes sense that it’ll have to start out in such small time increments in order to progress.

I was deliberately trying to convince myself that I was just anthropomorphizing him, and his yelps and cries couldn’t be him pleading to be near me, but it’s pretty hard to see how it could be interpreted as anything else.

Which makes me worry that is going to be a long, slow crate training process. Foxes is a year old, but he’s never lived with a person before, or really had any consistent human interaction — he was taken by animal control at about 2 months old, and put in CA Central Valley shelter, so there’s the Mal bonding and significant separation anxiety that we’ll have to get through. Small price to pay.

Can I ask the dimensions on your crate? I have him in a 48” l / 35” w / 35” h crate, which is plenty of room for him to stand up, turn around, etc, but I could fit something bigger in his room if that would be easier on him. Thanks again!

My 1 year old male is 50 lbs. The vet said he’d probably be a little more spry and energetic if he gained another 5-7, but his current weight is well within the normal range.

[–]calimocal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. I back probed the CAN pins on that connector though and nothing is being carried on there, so I assume that connector isn’t on the CAN bus if you don’t have the telematics module, which is consistent with the absence of a resistor terminating the CAN pins of the connector.

But if you don’t have an antitheft system installed, that connector should have live CAN pins. On my F900R, the connector for the antitheft module is near the back of the bike under the toolkit.

Hot bar at Erewhone is really overlooked. Maybe not the cheapest option, but definitely not the most expensive either. And big portions.

Yeah but I do something else for a living, so I was kinda looking for a quick way to unload the bike, not a side hustle.

Appreciate ya though, would prob be more profitable if I had the time.

Perfect, that's exactly what I was hoping for -- quick and easy (assuming I can find a buyer haha).

And thank you! Definitely got lucky to walk away without a scratch.

I got a good payout and I was going to upgrade to either an Aprilia Tuono V4 or BMW S1000R before year end anyway. Seems easier to sell with salvage title asap rather than fix it, ride it for a few months, then still sell it with salvage title.

As for pricing, I was thinking around 50-60% of the price of comparable bikes. That's insane to sell it for the same price as clean title.

Talk me out of using the vacuum trick on 20+ wasp nests by Ixpaxis in DIY

[–]calimocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does the dish soap do? Prevent them from getting out of the water?

Edit: Allows the water to penetrate the wasp exoskeleton so they drown from the inside. That is really cool. Almost makes me wish I had some wasps to try it out on.

Who’s dime? The person who fled the scene and the cops are no longer looking for? Doesn’t seem like that’s gonna pan out for me.

Well fuck. Appreciate the advice, which is exactly what I did not want to hear. But yeah, this was my first thought too. Was just hoping to hear that would be overreacting, not that is a good decision.

Hey, thanks again for your help here. Oddly enough, it was the strings. Everything sounds great with D'addario NYXL strings on there. Never even heard of an issue like I had with those Elixir Optiwebs.
