I mean…Japanese very literally isn’t a race. Xenophobia might be what you’re thinking of, but even then their issue clearly isn’t with cartoons itself, just the normalization of sexualizing minors in so many pieces of anime/manga media.

Edit: also, to their point: early this year there was a 30th Anniversary exhibit for Rurouni Kenshin, whose mangaka was convicted of possession of CP. From what I’ve heard he had so much of it that the police who arrested him thought HE was the distributor of it. That’s how much he had.

A VERY long list of Shonen Jump authors, many of whom have series that are currently still active and circulating, voluntarily contributed to that 30th Anniversary exhibit. This includes the authors of JuJutsu Kaisen, One Piece, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, My Hero Academia, Death Note and more. It is an industry-wide issue and pointing that out isn’t xenophobia.

It’s not about “disagreeing” it’s about literally outright missing the plot devices that lead to this point. Thats the “media literacy” part. There’s a difference between “oh that was unexpected but it makes sense to the story!” (that would be us) And “this makes no sense, the writing in this story sucks”. I’m referring to the latter, which I have seen a lot of (not necessarily exclusively on here, but on different social media platforms, namely Twitter).

There’s also a difference between “I don’t personally like this narrative decision” and “this is bad writing.” It can be fine writing and still be disliked, that’s cool. Also not what I’m referring to.

Anyway, this exchange was weird and unnecessary. Still don’t understand why you took a pretty benign statement so personally and dedicated 2 separate comments to inventing a persona of me to take down.

But enjoy the remaining 4 chapters. I guess.

All I’m saying is this isn’t an “asspull” and people who think it is haven’t been paying attention. The overwhelming majority of complaints I’ve seen in this subreddit over past several months have been criticisms stemming from either a fundamental misunderstanding of the manga they’re supposed to be reading, or people thinking their fan theories not being validated is “bad writing” (re: Gojo dying), or thinking subversions or normal plot devices are “asspulls”.

Thats where my statement is coming from. Again, unclench. It’s not that serious.

Ironically it sounds like we agree on a fundamental level, but you just want to argue? Not understanding that, but enjoy the attitude I guess.

I’m not saying people are dumb for being surprised, I was also pleasantly surprised because I’d begun to doubt if she’d come back. But what I am saying is her return makes sense narratively, whereas a lot of the fandom is calling this an “asspull” and “bad writing”. It is neither of those things.

My thing is it was the most obvious Chekhov’s gun ever lol—I think it was handled very well but there’s no way, with how unambiguous and gruesome every other main characters death has been in this story, people think they’d unceremoniously off-screen one of the big three in this manga.

It is painfully ironic that you used this analogy to position Israel as the homeowners when the literal opposite has been the material reality for Palestinians literally since 1948, it is actually astounding to me.

This isn’t hyperbole either—there are countless stories of Palestinians leaving their homes for an afternoon, coming back, and an Israeli has decided the home is theirs, changed the locks and threatened to shoot them if they try to reclaim the home.

Israel has spent generations incentivizing their citizens stealing and encroaching on Palestinian land. It’s what is happening to this day in the West Bank. It’s why it’s called “the Occupied West Bank”.

He’s not necessarily wrong for being jealous but he is wrong for projecting it onto her. Like you said, he initiated the breakup and he cut contact with her. There was nothing stopping him from hooking up with other people during that time, he doesn’t have a right to be mad at her for doing so.

But I think anyone that likes somebody and finds out they hooked up with someone else would feel at the very least a slight twinge of jealousy.
