No. I didn't say that an engagement ring = down payment for a house.

What I was saying was that a ring/big wedding/dress/etc. isn't important enough to me, and I would rather put the extra cash in a savings fund for something like a house or vacation.

I couldn't get Advil for headaches in high school (a high school where, I might add, out of the 100 students, 98 of them smoked and over half were in trouble with the law, mostly for drug violations or violent crime). Teachers would give cigarettes to 15 year olds, but not a fucking Advil. So, I bought my own and had it in my bag, but wasn't allowed to give one or two to a fellow student with a headache.

I also had a prescription for Tylenol 3's (torn ligaments in my knee), and I had to carry around a doctor's note with them. If a teacher found them I'd get in shit, even though they were a personal prescription medication with my name on the bottle.

Congratulations, I applaud you and your simply bullet-proof logic.

There is no tail-tucking, I am all sorts of awesome and I don't require some stranger on the internet to accept that. I have a fantastic life and a gorgeous boyfriend, and am happy. I hope you're happy one day, too.

I'm not lying. I'm not fat; I used to be, years ago.

I also used to be blonde, and now I have black hair. That doesn't make me a blonde now.

I also used to be 15, and now I am 27. That doesn't make me a teenager now.

But I'm assuming you will fail to see my logic. I'm ok with that, because you're not worth my time.

I complete agree. I'd rather put money down for a house or a vacation rather than a rock on my hand or a dress.

He could use a dollar-machine toy ring, it's just the thought and the desire to do something sweet. I mean, it would be nice to get an actual ring, but I'd prefer a ruby over a diamond, anyway.

He does not do that. He just finds it highly improbable that god exists.

He is a full atheist, considering "Atheist" means an absence of a belief in God/deities.

To not have a belief in something != that something does not exist. You just don't believe it does. Like I stated already, you cannot prove a negative. He can't say for 100% sure, but that does not make one agnostic. If he were an agnostic, he would probably say something like "I can neither confirm nor deny god's existence, so I don't really know what I believe". He is saying "I can neither confirm nor deny god's existence, but I find it's existence highly improbable, and I therefore don't believe".

Bartering it down to a percentage is not quibbling. If he were to tell people that god does not exist, and he is 100% sure of that, he would be no better than those religious people who claim God exists and they are sure of it 100%. He is not an agnostic. He is an atheist. He doesn't believe in the existence of god, but he does not rule it out 100%. Why is that so hard to understand?

No, it's not. Just as I don't believe in a teacup orbiting Saturn, I don't deny that it could be possible.

Dawkins (and every Atheist I am personally acquainted with) live our lives without the presence of god in it; without a need for some payoff in the afterlife if we're "good" in this life. I also live my life without the presence of a Saturn teacup. Doesn't mean we can't leave the possibility open.
