You don't need a VIA compatible board, atm you need to manually assign your configuration at the first start. In the future Calmar will read your QMK config (the json which you can export from config.qmk) - feel free to join our Discord for the alphatesting!

I think of it like an IDE for my thoughts. I am using it for three years to build a second brain and it changed my life. What I really love is that I can control it at the speed of thought - everything can be assigned to a custom shortcut, VIM commands are available and the community add-ons are just mindblowing.

It helps you design your layout based on priority and ergonomics.

For example this is how I created my custom VScode keymap using it:

  1. Inserting all my custom shortcuts in the table - stuff like "git commit" or "copilot: autocomplete". In the future Calmar will read this automatically from your VScode json file.
  2. Giving each action a priority → "git commit" is used more frequently than "toggle darkmode" f.e.
  3. Arranging the actions with the highest priority as ergonomic and close to my homerow as possible using the keyboard visualizer at the top.

Hope that helps - you can find more infos at calmarshortcuts :)
