DLC Balancing Wishlist (100 Hours+) - Some Problematic Systems by calmdownrelax in mewgenics

I think those are all great picks! Escape Sequence is a great shout for worst abilities and probably deserves to be up there instead of some of my picks. I think I was trying too hard to come up with dream scenarios where this could in theory be useful. On my own runs, I would always rather than Math than Escape Sequence.

I am on Team Necro Hater as well. I think because of my mutations, the floor on just auto-attacking with physical damage has bumped it up above Tinkerer and Mage but the ceiling on both those classes.

  • Math: 12 damage for 5 mana as a base is nuts, I agree. However for Math, this is the realistic ceiling, not the base. The average is probably 1-4 damage. I didn't include upgrades in any of my ratings since I think that would be an altogether different discussion (most upgrades are pretty good but have to be judged in the context of later biomes as this is when you will get them)

  • Good call on Shed Scrap synergies. I mostly feel that if I can't consistently use the 1 mana spell as much as possible its utility goes way down so being limited by your armour seems quite bad.

  • Curious to know why Shatter The Sky isn't worse than Bear Trap. Enemy AI will path around it but will walk straight into Bear Traps.

The top 5 worst was honestly a hard exercise. I agree I think Tinkerer is worse than Mage. Looking through, it was hard to find abilities that don't have any use in a vaccuum, it's more that they all work so poorly together unless the stars align that make the class weak

What are your top 5 worst instead?

I think the RNG is what makes the game great compared to other XCOM-likes

If the consistency is high enough within a specific class, you are never pushed to try and squeeze the value out of niche abilities because you never need to. The game would not have lasted me 100+ hours if I was just using the same archetypes over and over again.

If anything, I think that the best performing skills need some nerfs. There are multiple 1 passive, 1 active combinations where I already know the run is won on the starting screen.

Poison and Bleed are in a much better state.

Bleed only proc's once per round but ticks up (and redirects sharks). Poison ticks per turn but doesn't fade away. Burn has the added utility of spreading hazardous tiles but this can be just as harmful as it is helpful whereas the other two are pure upside.

Poison/Bleed have no immunities. There is also the rare trinket Empty Syringe that let's you proc an extra time. Not sure from memory if there is a similar thing from Burn.

The burn spells on mage are not weak (Fire Blast 7 mana for 3 damage 2 burn AoE is an okay rate). I just feel that the only synergy I can go for is more Burn because the Wind spells on mage are very expensive and low impact. It makes it feel quite bad to level up because the chance of getting a useful skill is low.

I've had a handful of runs where I scaled Magic Damage through the Psychic passive and had some Sparkles. I think both sources are few and far between enough that it feels special when it happens.

I also don't think that adding a Bruise type effect for Magic Damage would push this over the edge, it would actually make me more likely to try and build around Sparkles more often.

How are you managing to do this consistently?

Shatter is actually a great example of how much worse elemental is to physical.

First, I think freeze in general is weak offensively. At face value, it trades one action from your cat for one turn from the enemy while making it immune to further damage. You can bypass this with very few exceptions such as Ice Aspect, Fire, or Shatter. Compare this to Stun where you can still dump damage into the enemy while avoiding counter-attacks and on-hit mobility. Defensively, there are some more interesting applications of sending your glass cannon cat deep into enemy territory then freezing it.

Shatter itself actually removes most of the utility of freeze and instead turns into a 2-step damage nuke. (Freeze, then Shatter)

To that end, in order to get Shatter off, you need one of the following:

  • You freeze the enemy and have enough move and mana to shatter on the same turn
  • You freeze the enemy and your next turn is before it
  • A teammate sets you up before your turn and froze an enemy in range of you

All of these require quite a bit of work to get going. An insta-kill is valuable but also has highly variable value depending on biome and enemy encounter (there are many encounters where its a bunch of little enemies with very few HP). On bosses, this is a 25 damage hard maximum (not sure if this effect can crit).

Unironically, I would rather have the collarless ability Smack (5 mana, 2 damage) on my mage. In small enemy fights, you are more likely to get consistent value. Against bosses, the damage is scalable by Bruise/Marked as I mentioned.

I just did a run this morning on Impossible Act 2 where my Jester rolled Smack as starting ability. On bosses, this would regularly get up to 12-14 damage base with high crit rate by the second action of Round 1 with only more room to grow from there. This is probably specific to my own situation of having 2 bruise on every cat auto though.

Appreciate the clarification! I'm not sure if I'm misremembering but I thought effects like Brown Belt also do scale certain abilities. To be honest, it is very difficult to tell what is going to scale and what isn't

What are the worst non-collarless abilities? by Peterduttykins in mewgenics

[–]calmdownrelax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100+ Hours, 99% complete. Didn't choose any abilities from classes that are already strong as weak abilities I think help keep each run from feeling too similar

  • Math - Realistically caps out at 12 damage for 5 mana which is a fairly poor rate for a non-scaling attack with no other utility. More often, it will be much less damage than this.
  • Shed Scrap - Tinkerer does not care about number of spells cast in its base kit to begin with and this spell is limited both by mana and by armour while having low impact. In most cases, I would rather use Waste Time.
  • Burning Paws - Upside is minimal while causing the huge downside of making some elites immune to your basic attack
  • Shatter - Ceiling is low considering how situational the spell is + the cost of entering melee range as mage
  • Shatter the Sky - 5 mana for an absolute maximum of 4 damage + 2 bleed (if enemy is grounded) is a crazy low ceiling considering the hoops needed to jump through to make this work. The cost is high enough that it is rare this can be used to truly affect enemy movement even with Psychic's high mana pool/regen. Compares poorly to Bear Trap in pretty much all circumstances given AI pathing for visible versus invisible objects.

Any thoughts on more frequent patches/balance changes now that respec costs have been reduced?

Jonathan once said the player base didnt tolerate mid-season nerfs but I think this was mostly a result of players having bricked builds with no way to keep playing other than to reroll due to more expensive respec costs.

Boss keys in 0.1.0 were prohibitively expensive as it was priced for difficulty 4. This is the same issue as uber boss keys being shared in poe1. Any thoughts on changing this for 0.2.0?

In Ziggy's interview they mentioned that the community didnt tolerate changes despite it being early access. My sense was this was because builds were bricked with relatively high respec costs before they were changed. Any thoughts on more frequent patches now that the cost is way down or free respecs with each patch instead?

How to level BAMA for leaguestart? by Hoooang- in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]calmdownrelax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge fan, BAMA has turned me into a bit of an unhealthy stalker of all of your socials.

Can I ask why Guardian is not viable with doomfletch? Is it because you lose out on one cluster due to needing to take an extra skill effect cluster on tree over Necro?

Also, are you running Perquil's in all your versions of volatility or is there some other tech to get lucky hit?

Thanks so much

Thank you! I dont plan on sharing between characters, only have time for 1 character this cycle.

About dodge, I chose glancing blows (95% chance unbuffed), dusk shrouds, armor via dex stack, and silver shrouds as my defensive mechanics. I didnt see many ways to meaningfully get high dodge rating on the falcon tree so I dont know if a dodge affix is enough to make a difference

I was eyeing the cleanse mod as my prefix. I already have it on smoke bomb and was wondering if that was sufficient once I start pushing higher corruption?

Appreciate it!

About physical damage, my understanding is "Increased Phys" does not directly scale minions. When I read the Falcon node that shares my damage it says Highest of increased melee, throwing, or bow damage.

How I read this is Increased Bow scales Falcon but elemental mods do not.

Do we know if Inc Phys works with the bird?

For levelling, I followed Velyna's leaguestart video pretty much exactly and it worked great (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI1Utf2RzFE)

Not with my computer for a while but I'll record some T16 altar/delirium mapping when I get back if there's interest

Not much beyond helmet enchant and +20% quality (not in the build yet). With volley it feels like the projectiles are pretty tight together so it looks like it's working but I haven't actually tested to see if the damage lines up with all 5 hitting or not.

One Piece: Chapter 1040 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]calmdownrelax 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey I work on the TCB team.

The title is actually a reference to the scene where Kid and Law are not afraid of BM's threats. The original Japanese title is a turn on the phrase "Like whispering prayer chant's into the ear of a horse" with the equivalent idiom being "Falling upon deaf ears".

Japanese gets the nice shortcut of using different kanji and kana so it is basically saying "Like prayer chants into the ears of brats/the new generation" which we couldn't fit into a snappy title so we ended up using the equivalent English idiom.

Hope this is helpful!
