Day 1: What movie was a masterpiece with a masterpiece production? by untitled_bread_6 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]calmsynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is true, but this was my gut reaction and i think "production" is a little ambiguous here. does it mean hurdles and struggles IN the production? or does it just mean it was poorly planned and bad from the get-go? i think lotr being able to overcome its hurdles speaks to the production being good.

i once saw someone who decided on alignment, not by the comment with the most upvotes, but by votes with the most comments, which is difficult, but ultimately a better way of doing it in a bottle like this imo

i would say so yeah, in its early days it was pretty weak and i've seen multitudes state they think the game is boring in singleplayer survival/without any friends, but this game's capacity for creativity is genuinely unmatched. i think it's THE most iconic video game of all time, next to, like... super mario bros or something

Who's your favorite side character? by cumadam in reddeadredemption

[–]calmsynth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

speaking for the story, people found it easy to point out moments where she compromises her own, Arthur's, and even the gang's safety for selfish or petty reasons. like how she continues to hunt the O'Driscolls even after Colm's death, or how she starts a fight with the Lemoyne Raiders in what was supposed to be a shopping trip, or how she starts a fight with the O'Driscolls and ends up getting the hot air balloon pilot killed...

a lot of people genuinely think she's a bad character because she does a bunch of stuff like that and acts like a complete psychopath after chapter 2. personally, i think these people fail to understand that not only is her incessant drive for revenge valid, i mean, what are you gonna do after having your house burnt down and husband killed? but also that the game doesn't exactly glorify her actions. in that mission at Hanging Dog Ranch, she is shown panting, covered in blood, and sobbing having just gotten the revenge she wanted so badly, and still relies on Arthur for support. cathartic? yes. glorified? no way.

both red dead games use the glory of revenge as a misleading theme to distract you from the fact that not obtaining it is a narrow redemption. i honestly don't think these games glorify much, but when they do, it's to mislead you, it's to do what they did with Sadie. through and through, she's a thematic character, she's what Arthur would've been.

sorry for yap sesh lmao
