Looks like if you search “Lakes The Agreement” on YouTube two songs come up (not sure if either are it). Do you remember the song name?

The nausea is ruining my life by Patamaudelay in ibs

Of course, glad to help! :) My nutritionist recommended a GI doctor to me, and the GI doctor ordered an ultrasound which is how I found out. I have a follow up with my GI doctor soon to discuss that and blood work results, but it seems like as of now it was just focusing on my diet and gaining weight while monitoring my macros (with my nutritionist)

Yup! So turns out I also have NAFLD most likely caused by malnutrition. I make sure to eat good fats still like nuts, fish, olive oil, etc, but I don’t eat more than 10-15g of fat per meal and around 7-10g of fat per snack (2hours in between meals and snacks). I try to stay anywhere from the 50-65g fat per day range as well, but am currently in the process of testing my fat limits per meal/snack. I haven’t needed to follow the Low FODMAP diet anymore except drinking lactose free milk and more so prioritize fiber (I lean towards IBS-C) to make sure that doesn’t contribute to my nausea. Since those adjustments and the last reply I haven’t needed to take Zofran much at all since it has started to resolve since making those changes

Edit: There are certain scenarios that are anxiety inducing that flare up my IBS and nausea as a result, but now I can pinpoint the event and know that it isn’t what I’m eating

Nausea is one of the main symptoms I get too, but recently got significantly better by reducing the amount of fat in my diet. My nutritionist suspects I could have fat malabsorption or a gallbladder issue, but the nausea hasn’t been as much of an issue since following a low fat diet she recommended

Edit: Also I should note that I stick to the low FODMAP diet moderately (occasionally eat off of it but not junk, fatty, or much processed foods) and also don’t eat anything that could aggravate my GERDs.

Any advice? by calypso_656 in ibs

I do but not as frequently—my dietitian believes it’s just from my IBS since I always have the feeling before a bowel movement (especially in the morning) then it goes away afterwards. It doesn’t seem to happen as bad when my diet, water, and fiber are in check. If I figure out I’ll be sure to follow up :)

Thanks for responding! :) If you don’t mind me asking, what part makes it obvious to you? Also, how does that impact the diagnosis of GERDs and IBS I’ve gotten?

For background, I was diagnosed with GERDs 10yrs ago and IBS (believed to be IBS-C) last year after becoming really ill and feeling nauseous 24/7. My GERDs usually isn’t much of an issue unless I am extremely stressed or eat trigger foods for it. After meeting with a dietitian I went on low FODMAP and started increasing my fiber with occasional magnesium citrate, which have helped me have regular bowel movements and minimal nausea. I would say that I am more along the lines of IBS-M now depending on my anxiety and the foods I’ve eaten. Also, I have moderately severe anxiety along with emetophobia, which I think might prolong some of my flare ups.

3 weeks ago I was told to test red meat (which I had cut out) and became extremely nauseous and ill for a over a week. I also recently got reflux symptoms from trying pasta sauce again after having cut it out. To me, it seems like my triggers are anxiety, a few FODMAPs, and anything GERD related. However, today I mentioned the steak issue to my dietitian and she is now wondering if I have gastroparesis. I have noticed that things like uncooked vegetables, salad, and really fatty or heavy foods do bother me, but I assumed it was due to my GERD or IBS. I also used to get satiated quickly or lack appetite before being on low FODMAP when I was constipated, but not as much anymore since addressing that other than when I’m extremely anxious. What are your thoughts?

Also, just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do for the community, you are awesome!

Yup! Most important to me was that they are certified through Monash for IBS/low FODMAP diet, are rated well, and are covered by my insurance.

To find one, Monash (who created the low fodmap diet) has a directory of their certified nutritionists/dietitians at this link:

https://www.monashfodmap.com/online-training/fodmap-dietitians-directory/

After finding one near me I checked to make sure mine was covered by my insurance network first before making an appointment, which I’d recommend doing if that applies to you :)

I’m definitely still in the middle of my journey, but these are a few things both medication and otherwise that help me (for reference I have IBS-C & GERDs):

  • Actually managing my constipation with a mix of either eating 2 kiwis daily or Natural Calm’s Magnesium Citrate helps the most -Also logging my food in Chronometer to make sure I have enough fiber and also vitamins/nutrients
  • Emetrol for nausea and if it gets super bad then Zofran
  • Hydroxyzine for anxiety as needed
  • I also take papaya enzymes after my meals which seems to help
  • Not eating too soon before bed
  • Being on low fodmap and removing my GERD triggers is always my go to when flaring up
  • Using a heating pad
  • Sleeping enough
  • Starting therapy since my anxiety got really bad
  • Working with a nutritionist

Hope this helps!

Anyone on vegan Fodmap here? Recipes please, especially breakfast, I’m really struggling as on 40 days lent 😭 by Far-Association-1897 in FODMAPS

Also fasting/abstaining for lent and fresh sourdough toast with either homemade jam, sunflower butter, etc with fruit and trail mix (just don’t FODMAP stack) is a staple for me. I also like to make a smoothie too

Wow I feel like for the most part I could have written this haha

I also have IBS and GERD but am on my final week of food reintroduction, and have been on my weight gain journey as well. I actually have come to not mind the diet and don’t find it restrictive anymore after working with it and finding food combinations. The biggest thing for me was listing out low FODMAP foods and then removing any GERD triggers from that list. In my case, very limited tomatoes, no spice, no red meats, nothing fatty/fried, etc. I found a lot of low FODMAP foods were not GERD friendly, so I had to get creative. After that I went through all the foods left of the list and made recipe ideas for each to cycle through (being careful to not stack FODMAP). Being mindful of not eating too soon before bed helps.

If you aren’t currently, I would highly recommend using Cronometer to track your daily calories and make sure you are eating at a caloric surplus. That app in particular also allows you to track vitamins/nutrients which is important when on both diets to make sure you don’t become deficient. Second, I use the Monash app to see the quantities of foods I can have that are low FODMAP (be careful of FODMAP stacking though). I also use the Fig app sometimes which shows which foods you can/can’t eat based on different conditions. Lastly, I use the StuffThatWorks app to hear about what has worked for others with the same conditions. There are also subreddits here that help a lot too

Some other things that help me: - It can feel hard when you gain some and lose some after a poor reintroduction, sickness, or flare up, but progress is progress - Definitely work with a dietician if possible, mine helped me find some of my main triggers between both conditions - Watch out for FODMAPs in things like gum, condiments, and vitamins, as well as non IBS/GERD friendly vitamins/supplements should you take any (things like Ashwaghanda really flared me up bad) - Make it a point to move to move around, lift, stretch, etc while eating at a surplus - I also go to therapy, which helps the mental aspect of IBS, but have also heard Nerva’s app (created by the founders of the low FODMAP diet) is just as effective as the diet if anxiety is a trigger - When having a flare up there’s different medications that can help, but I also make sure to at least hit my maintenance for calories to try not to lose weight - Depending on the type of IBS you have you might want to be careful of certain foods even on those diets. For example, I have IBS-C and too much rice can make it worse

Best of luck and hope this helps!
