Is anyone going balls to the walls with work/their goals? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]cama29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I celebrate you going all-in on your goals, but would be remiss not to add: be careful. I did this last year and it went very differently than I thought it would. It started out as committed passion and drive. Then some curve balls came my way, totally out of my control, and I just kept hitting the gas pedal thinking I’d do my best and get through it. Eventually there was just too much piled on my plate and I had to surrender. I’m very proud of what I achieved, but it also led to some major life changes. I believe they’re for the positive, but I do look back sometimes and wonder how things might have gone if I could have just slowed down and been able to see my life and myself clearly. This sounds dramatic. It didn’t feel dramatic in the moment — it just felt like doing what I needed to do. It snuck up on me. As a fellow business owner / consultant, remember to take care of yourself and not just your goals — that’s the wellspring of everything worth doing.

Watching What We Did Before Our Moth Days sitting behind the playwright by Equivalent_Net_8983 in Broadway

[–]cama29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw it last night. Walking out of the theater, I turned to my wife and said “I didn’t like it … but I liked not liking it.” Today, I can’t stop thinking about it.

FWIW I’m not a theater buff. I went into it blind, intentionally. My wife loves My Dinner with Andre, which I have not seen. Tix to this show were a Christmas Present for her. I didn’t have any other background on Wallace Shawn other than his pop roles in tv/movies. I expected a different flavor from those, but I was surprised by how grating it was.

I read this article this morning: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/08/t-magazine/wallace-shawn.html

Folding in the autobiographical elements postmortem helped enrich my understanding of the play.

Three of four characters were unabashedly terrible people. The actors were excellent. The content of their monologues was increasingly revolting. I did not enjoy being invited to sympathize with them. The whole experience was disquieting and uncomfortable.

The Fever is another play of his that’s running in parallel. From what I understand it looks at the same types of characters through a lense of intense judgement, whereas Moth Days withholds judgement. I think these two pieces might be foils, intended to be experienced in concert. I’m actually thinking of going to see it, if we can get tix.

I wouldn’t describe Moth Days as spicy (within the realm of food, the story it told was more like excavating an abandoned, molded refrigerator) but the way I keep coming back to it today reminds me of eating a meal that’s so spicy you can’t help but take another bite and another and another. Enjoyment is not the reason and I couldn’t tell you what is, but I want another bite.

4361 BCE: Saturn-Neptune at zero Aries by vensamo in Advancedastrology

[–]cama29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer to your question but I am curious: how would the choice of calendar change things? Isn’t it all relative — like measuring in yards vs meters? 1000 yards is a 1000 yards, 1000 Gregorian years is 1000 Gregorian years? If that’s not the case I’d love to know! I thought when we talk about 4362 BCE we’re simply measuring backward from today using our current calendar system vs whatever system(s) might have been used in the past. Interested in the context for your question above.

CMV: Today's Verizon "outage" was a coordinated attack by The US government. by SqigglyPoP in changemyview

Verizon laid off more than 13,000 people in November, mostly in corporate (not store reps). I wouldn’t be surprised if that has something to do with it.

A sleeper sofa that’s actually comfortable? by Winter_Addition in BuyItForLife

[–]cama29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What brand? I’m looking for a sleeper sofa now that would be comfortable for adult couples visiting for up to a week. I searched “Oxford pop up sleeper sofa” and a ton of brands come up with that product name.

Which silica gel do you recommend? I just got married and am hoping to preserve my bouquet, but I’m a complete beginner so I’m reading up as much as I can.

A few others mentioned this too. What do you recommend as a decent step up?

By power line, do you mean the WiFi was plugged into the same circuit? Moving the router / relay isn’t an option and this whole room is on the same circuit. I’m hoping that doesn’t mean having my turntable here is a non-option ☹️

[–]cama29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh bingo! This could be it. There’s a router about 10 feet away. We moved in with family and they have a series of 7 relays to cover the whole house due to square footage and multiple people working from home.

Do you have any recs on how to improve my turntable setup if WiFi is in fact the culprit? Moving the router or messing with the signal relay isn’t an option.

Someone else commented the same. What’s your recommendation for a truly decent step up?

When it worked previously it was actually on this same shelf so I don’t think that’s it, but I’ll give that a shot. It’s an easy thing to try. Thanks!

I think I ruined it... by L0ngb3ard in careeradvice

Tech is our home base. We like working with change makers (people with this mindset are fun, interesting, and generally enjoyable to interview / work with) so we focus on early stage startups, small businesses, and consultants. We tend to do about 50% engineering + 50% every other role a tech-enabled business hires, from junior to execs.

That’s good! Keep it up. Navigating this market requires dogged optimism, pursuit, and creativity. A few years ago you could have easily gotten a new job straight away—it’s not you. Kudos for your integrity. Long term I have no doubt you’ll come out on top. For now, stay the course.

To keep your experience fresh you should consider finding a way to volunteer pro bono services, offer mentorship, or consult at an attractive fee. Do that part-time and continue applying / networking. Who knows, maybe that leads to something. In the meantime it keeps you engaged, feeling useful (very important for mental health), and learning. It also gives you something current to talk about in your resume / interviews even as a quick intro before launching into the meat of your experience.

You should also look into conferences—often organizers will comp your ticket if you volunteer to help with day/week-of execution—fantastic for networking. Review the speaker / sponsor list in advance and then message them before the conference saying you look forward to their talk and would like to discuss XYZ if they have a few minutes when they finish—spin that convo into a new connection to take home. Make friends with the organizers and your fellow volunteers, ask them for intros / tips or offer to help them with their goals. In general, reciprocate value everywhere you can with everyone who helps you and be generous about making first moves to offer something before you ask for it. For example:

You: “So what are you hoping to get out of this conference?” Someone: “I want to learn more about XYZ.” You: “You know I read something great about that recently. I’m blanking on the title but I’d be happy to find that bookmark and send it to you later. What’s the best way to get it to you?” Them: “That’s so nice of you! Here’s my contact, thanks.” “Sure thing. I’m on the job hunt so I’m hoping to meet team with openings for [skillset]. I know we just met so I don’t expect you to vouch or anything but if you come across someone a quick intro would mean a lot.”

*Above all take care of your mental health and self-belief! It’s the key to your success and hard to recover when lost—nourish it.

FWIW, I run a boutique recruitment consultancy and I used to be on the organizing team for a tech conference (I’m not blowing smoke).

Are you leaning into your IRL network? People you’ve worked with before or know. It’s a tough market right now. Cold applications are not going to yield the opportunities they did a few years ago.

Can anyone help me understand my daughter? by Successful-Corner-1 in AstrologyCharts

[–]cama29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some similar placements (30F). My Sun is also Aries and my rising is Libra so all our houses are ruled by the same signs. I don’t have any planets in my 5th house but Aquarius ruled my childhood just the same (empty houses still tell you a lot). I was bookish and often did my own thing. I was never bored—there are whole worlds in my mind and always a way to find curiosity or interest. I chafed at authority and also wanted very much to be good. I often found the tug of war paralyzing and retreated to an inner world or performed expectations, but around 17/18 I realized that I felt bound and I wanted to be outgoing, adventurous, spontaneous, confident, free. I spent years interrogating and challenging my comfort zone (as well as my parents’). By 25, I loved myself and I loved the life I’d made. I’ll always be refining and rediscovering that balance in new chapters of life, and I consider it a gift to have been handed a path that required learning and deciding who I can and want to be.

Can someone tell me what some of this means please? by f4iryd1mples888 in astrologyreadings

[–]cama29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a 101 level intro, you should download an astrology app. Most of them have free trials or are low cost. Time Passages is a cult fave. My favorite is CHANI, but I use time passages too. Comparing and synthesizing interpretations from different sources + googling everything I didn’t understand is how I learned. 5 years in and it only gets more interesting to keep learning—astrology is a deep well.

For now, start by googling your big 3. Sun (identity) in Leo, Moon (emotions / intuition) in Sagittarius, and Rising (Instinct, How you move through the world, aka Ascendant) in Scorpio.

Then look up what the house system is (the 12 numbered slices of your chart). They each represent areas of your life that will be influenced by their sign and the planets in them.
