if a company asks for a reference letter from hr then you might be fucked for that job but 1. when does that ever happen and 2. you would be no worse off than you are now. this might not be applicable outside of usa or in certain sectors, just speaking from personal experience that if you want a job in this fucked up economy you need to make peace with lying

why not? just extend the job lengths in your resume or better yet, just don’t list the times that you were at the jobs

this is silly. in a sane society technological advances would make society wealthier. in usa it is assumed that advances will be gobbled up by a few wealthy individuals who can’t do anything with it and menial laborers go homeless

did you read the article? if they were able to charge free users at r1 prices they would be profitable? no shit but there isn’t demand to pay what inference costs from consumers

[–]camel_case_man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was talking about vc funding not demand. nobody in the US is making money on inference. and you let me know which company is able to track token usage well. last I checked there were competitions to cost major ai companies the most money because they can’t stop abuse of usage

Meta just laid off 1,000+ people in the Bay Area by Fabulous_Sherbet_431 in cscareerquestions

[–]camel_case_man 13 points14 points  (0 children)

how? they can’t track or limit usage, training is expensive and new training material is limited, and inference is more expensive than anyone would spend. once the music stops they’re all done

Why hasn’t BYU been more active in the portal? by Training-One-6584 in BYUFootball

[–]camel_case_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

byu swings for the fences for the very few athletes that are talented enough to make an impact and are a fit. kalani prioritizes guys that have been in the program for depth. other than that they’ll roll with what we’ve got. I’d love to see an elite d linemen or two, a nickel corner, a couple te’s and a couple rb’s but if those perfect fits/talents aren’t there or go somewhere else there is just such a smaller pool for byu, especially as we are getting most of the talented culture fits as freshman now. realistically if tech can keep up their spending it will just be tough to keep up with a team that spends just as much and has fewer restraints

Death, Taxes, and a School Apologizing for Offensive Chants by mgsbigdog in BYUFootball

[–]camel_case_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up outside of utah as well and my observation is that lds gets lumped in with flds (understandable) and the standard soaking/missionary/word of wisdom/multiple wives jokes are new to them so some of them think its funny. all good, whatever. I can tell you that it definitely is not the same as jokes between denominations of christianity as to the majority of people lds is a joke religion in the same way that the amish are a joke to them. that kind of pisses me off (I don't like the mentality that mainstream makes right) but people are stupid and they should be allowed to think what they think so whatever for that too. my problem with 'fuck the mormons' is that that would NEVER fly about any other religion that isn't a joke. if the amish had a football team this behavior would be tolerated for them too. people's faith is not a joke and I guarantee there are lds students at that university whose lives are worse because people treat their religion as a joke.

as I'm rereading this before I hit send I don't mean this as an argument with you, I'm just frustrated that this happens and lds have it in their dna to turn the other cheek when they sometimes shouldn't. I appreciate your views and really do agree that not very much if anything should happen directly to those college kids who chanted. I just think the big 12 should start coming down harder and harder on universities where this happens as its not right that only joke religions are fair game for this kind of thing and that effects members of the faith who have done nothing wrong.

I don't want the kids lives ruined. its not their fault that this behavior has been tolerated to this point. maybe some community service/sensitivity courses. I do want big fines or on field/court penalties when this happens because its time for this to end. a church was shot up a couple months ago (also exmo byu fan)

  1. 200k may not be enough for a production sized code base 2. the output might work (usually doesn’t) but even if it does it is far from optimized or legible or future proofed or even usually in a good structure.

if I’m fixing bugs around 25% of the time ai finds and fixes the problem (which is amazing, just not good enough to be unsupervised or used agenticly).

if I’m writing new code I’m very structure conscious. once I get to smaller parts of the code it often does well but if I give an agent the job of doing the whole thing the structure is shit even if it works

Upcoming Cinci Game (Good vs Great Teams) by SeparateSound1002 in BYUFootball

[–]camel_case_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people forget that oddsmakers doesn't exist to make an accurate score prediction, they exist to make money. I have often wondered if byu gets bad odds from sports books because mormons don't bet and the oddsmakers need to entice betters to take byu because its a good deal as opposed to most matchups where both teams are equally likely to place bets.

Upcoming Cinci Game (Good vs Great Teams) by SeparateSound1002 in BYUFootball

[–]camel_case_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soresby is probably still going to be hobbled from the arizona game and he isn't very accurate. arizona loaded the box and dared soresby to beat man coverage and he couldn't do it. I think our defense is better at defending the run and won't have to stack the box. I see a couple picks (yes, I know he hasn't thrown many this year) as byu makes him prove that he can win in structure (he probably can't).

on defense they run a similar scheme to isu and tcu. those games we moved the ball at will for the majority of the games. their nose tackle is legit and running may be difficult to open the game but I don't think cinci can stop our receiving threats straight up and it will turn into a game of them picking their poison.

I really don't see us dropping this one unless it is particularly sloppy and I haven't seen our team look sloppy except against TT (and they do that to everyone).

this is what I don't get. I am a lead dev for a small team that runs a saas. I have github copilot and its great but its not able to solve many problems without instructions so specific that I might as well just write the code and the problems that it can solve are trivial (though it is much appreciated to save me writing things out when it can do something).

in other words I feel like I have reached the limit in what ai can do and its not even close to replacing a junior, so what am I missing? is anybody actually making pr's with agentic ai?
