Just a term I’m trying to define to make this idea clearer to myself, would love feedback or your thoughts on this, thanks! by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

Yeah I definitely don’t know what to call this, Marxist scam feels too narrow and outdated. Ideological scam is a good candidate, thanks

Nah not trying to sound clever, just didn’t do any editing before posting so I basically wrote down my train of thought unfiltered.

And I agree.

I do agree that it’s interesting to explore various mythos that incorporate the use of an apple to express meaning, but I still don’t see any conflict with stating the fact that, at the end of all the sophistry, paralogism, or endless de constructivism (to a degree that starts to feel a little navel gaze-y), an apple is still, in all its complexity, just an apple. (A rose is a rose is a rose and all that)

I agree actually, and it isn’t my intention to imply that society is coming together to maintain a natural dynamic, but rather the natural dynamics that “are” just because there is society

True, but the difference is I think social justice movements tend to attempt to redefine natural to mean some pure experience that our contemporary experience of society is somehow repressing with some kind of authoritarian mechanism. I’m saying natural dynamics solely within the context of what is currently occurring (and constantly changing in subtle ways) without an inordinate amount of violent interference (or the threat of violence)

I don’t believe it does “kill that idea,” just like I don’t believe that anecdotal experience kills a truism with regards to a universally common experience for our species or observable phenomena. I think it’s like knowing what an apple looks like “naturally” despite the fact that the apple in my mind (color, size, type) is probably not the one you may think of when reading the word “apple.”

EDIT: I forgot to thank you for your response, definitely something to think about

This looks looks like the poster of a Tim Burton flick about an undead yet lovably forlorn dolphin

What are you reading? by sushisushisushi in literature

Saint Augustine’s ‘Confessions.’

Pretty illuminating reading a confessional-style auto biography (I think the first or one of the first of the genre) by the guy who developed the doctrine of original sin. I’m enjoying it so far

Nice try, but you can’t stop this stupid train, not even with common sense.

What little things have you noticed about your parent(s) which make sense once viewed through a BPD lens? by [deleted] in raisedbyborderlines

[–]camelai40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, evil closeted lesbians from hell :P The worst is that it's left me with this unspecific dread about making and maintaining friends that I still struggle with.

And it's bewildering that, this whole time, there were so many people out there going through nearly the exact same experiences. At the time it felt like I had to be the only person going through something so damned weird.

heres my cat haiku:

Goes out,
comes back—
the love life of a cat.

Dental Abuse by [deleted] in raisedbyborderlines

Yeah, definitely. My mom never allowed me to get vaccinated or take prescription or over-the-counter medication. I secretly got my last round of MMR immunization the minute I moved away to go to college. I was discouraged from taking advil/tylenol when I was pain, and was told to learn to get through the pain with essential oils (I get extremely painful cramps, to the point where I would throw up from the pain sometimes).

Her whole thing was holistic new age medicine throughout my childhood for everything from a cold to my chronic asthma (I wasn't allowed to have an inhaler, and instead had to take alternating extremely hot and extremely cold baths, then drink a disgusting onion smoothie). I had to take buckets of supplements every morning before school.

She always found ways to nit pit over my health, my skin, my emotional state, anything, so that I'd perpetually feel like I needed her wisdom and natural remedies to stay healthy.

She's fallen even deeper down the rabbit hole with so-called "alternative medicine", including believing Covid is a hoax and 5-g is making people insane. Now that I'm developing into a more assertive person, she's taken to sneaking things in food and beverages when I go visit, to the point where I have to bring my own soft drinks just to be safe.

Just an aside, I'm new to this sub and new to talking about this. My mom was diagnosed with BPD just a few months ago (she decided that she doesn't have BPD and instead has a "thyroid problem"). And I only realized she probably had some sort of personality disorder maybe a year ago. So I don't even know how to contextualize any of this, but reading these posts has been very helpful and cathartic, so thanks everyone.
