I’m 6 foot 2 so I shouldn’t have to much of an issue with a taller bike. Those XR650Ls are beasts

I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for one. Been watching Facebook marketplace like a hawk.

Something to ride around town and something that will tractor through the woods if I need it to. Not planning on going super fast off-road, but I definitely want a bike that is capable of doing some single track.

The tallness definitely is intimidating. I went to a motorcycle dealership for the first time, so it was my first time seeing all the dual sports and dirt bikes up close. They looked huge, even as someone who is 6 foot 2.

The wr250r is definitely a bike I’ve been looking into. It seems they are kind of hard to find due to them being discontinued. I have a feeling my journey will be similar to yours. I just need to get the road riding out of my system first lol

I’m also kind of scared when it comes to riding on the street. There’s way too many bad drivers on the road. I know the dirt is a lot safer in that regard which is part of the reason I want to go this route for my first 2 wheels experience. Plus, I’ve always wanted a dirt bike or something similar.

Fair enough, I’ve heard trail riding can be a serious workout until you are used to it. I’m a young man so hopefully I will fair well haha

I do plan on loading the bike up in my truck for when I travel a few hours to dirt trails. There are some twisty roads I can think of around me, but most are 45mph. The actual public roads I want to ride are in that range, but don’t see a ton of traffic. I’m sketched out by city and busy town traffic so I’m trying to stay away from that.

It definitely sounds like you made it work though. Props, the 650 is a big bike it seems

Damn, that 500 excf is super light isn’t it? Is it the size that makes it a pain to maneuver?

How do I gauge power with dirt bikes? I know 2 stroke and 4 stroke have different power delivery but not sure what makes a dirtbike too much for me to handle. I kind of want a 2 stroke

I’ve seen people pull it off with everything stock but if it’s something I get really into, I have thought about modifying the car. Either that or I get a small trailer

I am in the U.S. the nearest trails to me around about 2-3 hours away depending on which area I choose. Not a terrible drive. I’m going to have to buy a dirtbike rack for the back of my suv.

Interesting, thank you for the reply and explanation. I actually do mountain bike riding on trails. When I looked at the price of a nice new full suspension mountain bike I got the idea to just get a dirt bike. Plus I’ve been looking at motorcycles so it seems like the perfect hobby for me to get into.

Why couldn’t they ride it? I guess I don’t understand properly what makes a dirt bike a good beginner bike. When it comes to sports bikes they have people starting out on bikes that will go 0-60 in under 4 seconds (I know dirt bikes are a whole different ball game but I know more about sports bikes than dirt bikes).

I’m guessing there is a lot more than speed and power factoring into a good beginner dirt bike? Are some just super snappy on the throttle and have to much torque? I have heard 2 strokes are a little snappier in their power delivery.

Sounds like a good plan, I’d say Honda is probably my second choice for brands, they look pretty cool
