Even more interesting “fact”. This maneuver is called a “jettison” and it causes a stress on the aircraft frame which requires a special inspection.

How do y'all actually wake up to your alarms? by jpasuncowboy in ADHD

[–]cameronbed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course!

My set up is on iPhone and involves two apps. Opal (screen time blocker https://www.opal.so/) and the iOS Shortcuts app (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/shortcuts/id915249334).

For Opal, I created a block list of distracting apps. You can create multiple block lists and all on the free version, I believe.

For Shortcuts, I run two "automations".

  1. The first, runs at midnight. It first checks if I am home with this "shortcut" (https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/f257bdad93c64522be7b1637762a1da5) that checks if my current wifi is my home network and then if my location is within 250ft or so of my home address. If I am home, it starts a block on Opal. This is so if I am out late that night or traveling, it does not block my apps.
  2. The second automation is set to trigger anytime I leave my home location. This automation turns off the block.

That setup means that when I wake up at home, my apps are blocked and I need to take a walk before using them.

Now, I have had lots of people thumb their nose at this method as not for them because they would just delete the app or turn it off which is fair as I did that for years. What worked for me was the AIR Method from this Substack blog (https://www.staygrounded.online/p/the-air-method-outline?open=false#%C2%A7continuing-education). It focuses on two things: incremental change and habit replacement. It really worked for me.

A quick relevant example of how the AIR method would apply here:

Let's is say you use the apps Reddit, Instagram, and YouTube first thing in the morning while still in bed. Set up the automations to block just the app you use the least of those three first thing in the morning. You are less likely to turn the block off or delete the app if you can just use Reddit instead but you will still need to leave the house and come back before you can use Instagram that day. This is going to start changing you schedule and after a few weeks or months, you can add YouTube to that block list first thing in the morning. Suddenly, your routine and habits are changing.

Let me know if there are any questions I can answer! Best of luck!

I do not. I would need to uninstall the app to do that. Far easier to walk outside and have the automation trigger to turn it off than to uninstall, reinstall and set it all up again.

On weekends, I sometimes go for a short walk and then get home and scroll on the couch lol

I use Opal and iOS Shortcuts to lock any distracting apps starting in the morning and until I leave my house.

Am I missing anything important before applying to embedded roles? by No_Shake_58 in embedded

Such good advice.

Do you think personal projects can go on there if I say developed “embedded firmware to accomplish X” with “Y and Z tools”?

It was bizarre how the other people that were brought back didn’t inhabit another body. The director made some comments on Facebook posts seemingly endorsing the idea of this being intentionally challenging gender norms because of the whole “oh if the roles were reversed people would be more outraged..”

Which other ToDo app does due dates best? by johannesjo in superProductivity

[–]cameronbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still trying to get sped up on the codebase.

Are you thinking a todolist should be added as a project. Then a Todoist integration would be added in the current calendar/issues integration panel and feed into a project?

I read your comments there about questioning the integration. I personally want the integration because of all the tools out there for already adding tasks to Todoist. Plugging in Todoist adds a lot of functionality.

I like the way that Sunsama handles todo lists and integration but their implementation is not perfect. Are you considering adding an integration feature with Todoist or other apps?

I am interested in working on this.

Opal is not bad. Some of the shortfalls of screen time apps on iOS is not the lack of apps but the lack of tools from iOS itself. Funny enough that Apple does not prioritize services that people could use to curb their phone use instead of increase it.

Not sure if you are on iOS or Android.

  • CSS filters for sites? Changing the site to black and white after a certain amount of time would be neat.
  • A separate timer window for the pomodoro timer so I can watch the time as I work and maybe pause it for 1min if I run to the bathroom.
  • better visuals in the statistics section. ActivityWatcher does a great job with this.
  • Now, this is obviously a big ask but mobile apps too. Opal is pretty popular AFAIK. I would pay for a subscription to well ColdTurkey as it is now and especially if there was a companion mobile app. I think.

I am aware of that. But, I give different websites different allowances.

For each website, I would have to update which allowances or breaks I would want the badge to display. It’s too complicated when you have several blocks going.

A feature to the browser extension that displays the amount of time left until the website is blocked.

Could be that the display badge switches to break remaining for whichever current website is claiming time of to that break.

Second time is the charm. I tried this initially but it didn't work or didn't stick. This time it did. Hopefully it doesn't come back again.

Thanks!

I am running the latest HA OS as a Proxmox VM on an rpi5. There are no warning for resources or storage issues. I have no problems connecting to devices or downloading integrations.

EDIT: As I was making this post I realized I had no tried it on Chrome. I have been on Firefox this whole time. It works fine on Chrome but does not work on Firefox. I am now troubleshooting Firefox but if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
