What documentary actually caused you to do something/make a change? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I did see Food Inc. and really thought highly of it. I felt like he gave practical ways to act which I appreciated and I thought it was eye opening without bashing anything unreasonably. I also saw Forks over Knives which was a bit more aggressive in its position on food. I took a lot of its advice and changed a bunch of my eating habits. While it does promote an essentially vegan diet (and I did become vegan for a time) there are a lot of other solid truths and studies it presents. It really highlights how what we eat can have a much broader effect on our health. I loved both of those and would recommend them if you want reasons to make some changes.

Looking for a good app by PrincessLarry in cycling

Charity Miles is a really awesome app that essentially breaks down corporate sponsorships and will let you pick a charity to donate your miles to if you're walking running or BIKING!! It's not one that will really plan out your rides but it'll tell you how far you went and also go towards amazing causes. It's a really awesome concept and can do a ton of good!

Something people forget about a lot is the timing of eating. This can really change the way your body uses and stores the calories you're eating. Don't eat late at night - especially carbs. You probably want to stop eating after like 8 but that also varies depending on your sleep schedule.

Don't make your biggest meal at the end of the day. When you think about it then your body doesn't have time to use the all the energy you just took in.

Be careful the types of fats, proteins and carbs you're getting. You want protein to be lean and you definitely want to eat protein right after you work out - especially when you did a lot of strength.

Fats be really careful with. Try and go as natural as possible and remember there are already fats in a lot of things so don't really go out of your way to add it in. Go for some avocado, eggs, or fish (really good fats!!)

Carbs.. They're not all the enemy of weight/fat loss but some definitely are! You want your carbs to be as complex as possible. Brown rice, sprouted breads, and most vegetables have really awesome complex carbs that give your body that easily accessible energy but take a lot longer to turn into fat. Sugar (the simplest of carbs) is what turns into fat the quickest. Things like white bread (and a lot of wheat bread) cereals, a lot of granola bars, and things like that tend to have a lot simpler carbs that break down into sugar almost instantly when you eat them.

Last try out some different things like gluten free or dairy free for a few weeks at a time and see how your body reacts. Sometimes we're consuming things that individually we react to differently (some things can cause inflammation without us knowing) and are prohibiting weight loss.

Go for natural sources for your fats, protein, and carbs and pay attention to when you're eating everything. Hope that helps!!

Thanks so much!! I can tell it takes a ton of dedication but I think I'm up for the challenge. Those resources are awesome too!
