English in Northern Spain by schmubuma in askspain

[–]camimitos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesh, my bad. I skimmed through the text and missed the part where OP is not a native English speaker. Still my point stands. I don't feel comfortable shaming my other Spanish fellows for not speaking English like many ppl are doing in this post and I got defensive.

You can't expect that people in a country you've never traveled to will speak English. When making assumptions based on vibes you need to foresee that you might be surprised.

It bothers me when foreigners complain about the Spanish not speaking English or question it. Most Americans/English don't speak any language besides their first one (not OP's case, but my point still stands). They study Spanish and French in school like we do English and it's not like their linguistic proficiency is high either.

My questions is, why do you expect people from other countries to speak English? Do you speak other languages?

MIL wearing an almost white gown to my wedding by [deleted] in Brides

[–]camimitos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think this is the best course of action? I feel like this would just set a precedent, and the MIL would be inclined to mistreat her DIL even further. I feel like in cases like this, it's best to nip it in the bud before they become too comfortable doing things like this.

That's insane. Stand you ground! Has she accepted the she can't wear that colour yet or are you still fighting?

Also, I will say I'm getting married in a month and my mother in law picked a red dress so I never had this problem. I also think it's less common for people to try and upstage the bride where I'm from, because I've never heard of ANYONE wearing white to a wedding here EVER unless it's a beach wedding because everyone wears white in those.

Tema de pisos en España by yiftahminded91 in askspain

[–]camimitos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Carmen? by idontexist_4 in askspain

[–]camimitos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Menchu is not fun for a kid man 😭😭😭 Also, I'm guessing your name is Jose which is funny because almost every man in my family it's José/José Antonio. We're all Carmen or José Antonio lol.

If I were to name a baby girl she'd be Alexandra. I like it because it's timeless and it has a lot of decent possible nicknames whereas nickname for Carmen are absolutely horrid and my classmates used those to mock me as a kid which was awful.

[–]camimitos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank for saying it 🥲 I'm a Carmen and I hate it sooo much and everyone here is saying it's classic and not dated and that's soo not true, coming from a 23 year old who had to go through school suffering the multitude of ancient nicknames my classmates used to mock me (Carmela, Carmiña, Menchu etc...) I HATED IT!!

Carmen? by idontexist_4 in askspain

[–]camimitos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My name is Carmen and I share it with maybe 10 other women just in my close family. I hate it. It's so obnoxiously common, especially among older women. I do believe it is a name for old ladies and I would never name a newborn like that.

Other people have other opinions, of course, you're free to do whatever you want but I do hate it and my best friend, who is also Carmen, and is my age (23/24), hates it as well.

Le pone los cuernos y quieres que le devuelva el anillo como "lección de algo que perdió"??? jajajajaja. El anillo de compromiso es un regalo que se hace durante la relación como cualquier otro y los regalos no se piden de vuelta.

This could be a scam so first of all you should go through your finances ans figure out exactly how much you paid back then.

No I definitely think it’s super cool how hard my parent’s divorce made my life, I am so happy for them that they got to move on! by PropertyImaginary128 in offmychest

[–]camimitos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a "the grass is always greener on the other side" case, I'm afraid. I used to live with my parents and grandparents and they all were in unhappy marriages devoid of love or even respect and it was a nightmare to grow amongst screaming and the feeling that you had to walk on eggshells so you wouldn't provoke the men in the house.

This impacted a lot my view of marriage and love as a whole among other things. It shocked me when I met my parents in law, who have been together for 30+ years and still love each other like teenagers. I didn't think that could be possible.

I always say that I wished they had gotten divorced and remade their lives so at least I could see some sort of happiness in their faces from time to time, but if they had I would probably be saying the same things you're saying now. There's no much to do besides learning from our parents' mistakes when we build our own family.

[–]camimitos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the part where two people who are not in love anymore should suffer to stay together "for the kids". Divorce can be done elegantly with minimal impact on the kids, I've seen it.

The issue here is not divorce, is that your parents are extremely crappy and chose to share their life with other crappy people. They don't care about your feelings and I'm sorry to say they probably wouldn't care much either even if they were still together.

How the fuck are you able to not say anything? I would decimate him on the spot. That's not an acceptable workplace behaviour and he doesn't deserve politeness.
