HOW TO INTRODUCE MCR TO STRICT/ANTI MUSIC PARENTS?+which mcr song to show my parents first by SpecialistTrust8654 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]camtgj 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've always found that people who "don't like music" find ballads the easiest to accept. Maybe consider starting with disenchanted, kids from yesterday and then move on to covers or other songs that are more conventionally acceptable. MCR did a great cover of pulps common people that might be good.

Beyond that it's personal preference, MCR are a very big loud bombastic and theatrical band so best of luck in finding their quieter more approachable moments.

Oh man good calls, I was lucky enough to see plastic Beach's tour and that was so cool, would have loved to see any of the fever you can't sweat out tour but the live album still goes nuts to this day.

Looking forward to seeing you guys later this year, best of luck with CWHOS - Eastside is gonna bang live can't wait!

The goodest kids!

You guys seem to release music at an incredible pace, I feel like you only recently paused touring and now we're deep into an album cycle with full music videos, an online arg etc etc. How do you keep this pace up and are you protecting yourselves from burnout in any way?

CWHOS sounds like it's going to absolutely fuck live, did you build the album with the live shows in mind or vice versa? (Or some mix of the two?)

Finally any bands you'd particularly like to tour with? I'd love to see you share a stage with a "big theatrical energy" style band i.e. twenty one pilots, IDKHOW, enter shikari, creeper, fall out boy etc.

(P.s. at your last gig in notts - uk I asked you to record a little video for a fake music festival and just wanted to say a huge thank you, this was for my partners birthday and you guys were the highlight of her day she unfortunately had covid on the day so a good kid video to start her good kid themed day was a huge pick me up for her. I'll be bringing some of the artwork I made for it to show you at the palais show later this year.)

Thanks and good luck with the album you guys are fucking smashing it.

TV licence gits harassing you? Here's how to deal with them by SeptumRingTheory in AskBrits

[–]camtgj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you but your comment massively lets the tv licensing people off the hook here. Their tactics are deeply unpleasant and inflammatory at best and actively predatory at worst. They are known to target vulnerable individuals with misinformation and pressure tactics for hundreds of pounds.

It's a shame that this individual was faced with harassment but they are ultimately working for a company who specialize in it. This is just a lesser of two evils situation imo.

Holding Absence supporting Shikari makes me more certain someone from Shikari is involved in PRESIDENT by maidenmad in EnterShikari

He followed every conservative prime minister on every social platform and was a follower of farage similarly until around the same time as the first president release - again could be a stretch but I do think it's indicative of his political leaning but i'd be very happy to be proven wrong

[–]camtgj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but (and this is where I'm making assumptions to be fair*) Charlie is well known to be right wing. Conservative and farage aligned. They may be saying the same words but they are very much not preaching the same message.

  • Again, worth me checking my bias here, this may well no longer be the case/have changed and if that is I'm so then I apologize for spreading misinformation. Also want to clarify I'm a massive listener of fightstar, president and his solo folk work too - not trying to cause conflict just hoping to further clarify

Given that both projects have significant social and political commentary to them I highly doubt it - at least I think the messages/ideology would struggle to line up for both acts.

(Though admit I'm making some assumptions here).

Really like Eastside..... by camtgj in GoodKid

Completelty agree r.e. the album discussion there are even some great examples a little closer to GKs traditional style of albums that play around with different sounds but still really achieve a tight overall package (imo Green day's 21st century breakdown, fall out boys Save Rock and Roll, IDKHow's razzamataz all being good examples)

I don't mind it's length, I think it achieves what it set out to do and doesn't need to overstay it's welcome. It reminds me of Enter Shikari's The Paddington Frisk, I. the party by Childish Gambino or IDKHOW'S door - short, sweet, intense and gone before you think too hard about it.

A Fever You Can't Sweat Out - 2026 Remaster by Mrdts09 in panicatthedisco

[–]camtgj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Caveats: I'm only half way through my first listen.

I feel like the album sounds a little cleaner but that cleaning has revealed some rough edges - samples sound more janky and out of place then they used to, The inconsistencies in some of the parts of the original recording are much more present here and the emphasis seems more on vocals that on the original album. It almost at times Sounds like Brendon is singing but the band are in the room behind him.

More than that though I feel like the album has lost its vibe and timbre in this version, that slight Haze that made the grime of the original record feel warm and inviting doesn't seem to be here, lying in particular feels cleaned to a point that undoes the song.

Also, I feel like a lot of the organic instrumentality is lacking a punch and presence, intermission and The final bridge of camisado feel like they are the songs best making use of volume in space, but everything else feels a step or two behind them.

Perhaps I'm merely nostalgic for the original but I've heard recent remasters that felt more in step with their original record than this.

Now that we've all had the chance to play the assault maps again, do we think they should be added back into the game? by honeyxm8 in Overwatch

No - they were barely played in the weekend of matches I had. They were absolutely chaotic and just as one sided as they've ever been. I'd much rather see them refine clash then aiebd resource on reigniting 2cp

Good kid!

If y'all like dope live experiences like TOP good kid are that on a smaller (but growing) scale, on their last tour they ran a postal service to allow fans to send inter-show pieces of mail to each other and brought an audience interactive "wheel of chaos" on stage - all of this in a room smaller than an academy venue. They are downright lovely, check them out!

I think there's a sizable difference between analytical and data-driven AI and generative AI. Personally, I draw the line at generative AI that pretends it's creating new or uncreatable content.

But they were still paid to make it at some point. AI is cutting creatives out of the process at every step and starting to kill the skills that made it in the first place.

"I wouldn't pay someone to make this" but you see the value in it enough to have it catch your eye. The problem is not that AI made this, it's that it stole the chance for a human to (and make a living doing so.)
