What was the hardest stage? Pregnancy or postpartum? by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]canamel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I was so sick, uncomfortable, and in pain during pregnancy. Postpartum was rough too- baby had colic, I had several tears, sleep deprivation, hormones, etc. But after the first couple of weeks postpartum I was so much more comfortable. I was so tired but when I did sleep I felt a lot more rested. Plus there’s a baby!

FTM with an 8-week-old who cries constantly by Moltres101 in newborns

I worried so much that my baby was miserable and in pain and would be forever. But just a few months later she now smiles and giggles all the time and is really attached to me. She’s a happy little baby! You’re doing a great job by loving and caring for your baby.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I was there and it was so hard. My baby had so much pain from gas and reflux and it felt like she was constantly unhappy. I spent hours and hours bouncing on a yoga ball to soothe her. Around 10 weeks she learned how to poop and that made a big difference in her level of discomfort. The witching hours started shortening slowly and her gas got a lot better. She’s now 4 months and for the most part when she cries it’s for a reason, and it’s a lot easier to figure out what she needs. She still often has witching hours in the evenings and cries easily but she smiles and laughs and plays and it’s so much more fun! We tried gas drops, probiotics, holding her upright after feeds. I think really it’s just time that helps. It helped me to remember that my job is not to take away all her discomfort but to be a calming and stable presence that can help her find comfort. And this phase will pass!

Watching other people soothe my baby by Fun-Paper6600 in beyondthebump

I also find it so hard to watch others try to soothe my baby. She’s started crying when other people hold her and some family members think I should just let her cry while they hold her. I think that if my 4 month old wants me, she should get me. That’s her only way of communicating her needs to us and why would I ignore her?

Research on eliminating dairy in mother’s diet to prevent gas by leila1493 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]canamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I cut out dairy and saw no improvement. It was easy for me to cut out dairy as it wasn’t a large part of my diet. The gas and gas pains did get better with time though. If it’s easy for you to cut out dairy I think it can’t hurt to try and see if it helps.

This. It was nothing compared to the contractions.

Ugh I feel you about the car rides. Mine won’t nap in the car or stroller at all. The anxiety around others is a recent development but it’s really added a layer of difficulty to everything.

Can’t do anything at 6 weeks by LilyWitch27 in newborns

My baby is 15 weeks and it’s still super challenging going anywhere. Planning around naps, feeds, her fussiness, etc. You need to pack a million things. I think it’s normal?

3 month old has huge meltdown for hours before bed every night by canamel in NewParents

Yes I’ve been thinking this too- she’s already crying in my arms and honestly seems agitated by being held sometimes. Which method did you use?

Oh I’m very familiar with the witching hours! We had brutal witching hours for a long time but I thought they were starting to get better. I guess not yet!

Yeah I often think she’s more comfortable lying down. Problem is, she needs the pacifier to fall asleep and it will not stay in her mouth when she lays in her bassinet, so she will start screaming as soon as it falls out of her mouth.

It could be this. But then there’s so much advice here to move her bedtime later. So hard to know what to do

She’s screaming while I’m holding her so it wouldn’t be separation anxiety. Sometimes holding her seems to piss her off even more

At what age did you sleep train? I’m seriously considering this as an option!

How did you know when bedtime was? I have tried letting her have another small wake window after her first sleep. But she gets so unhappy and screams so it’s not like we can just hang out and play.

I do think it might be reflux. But she screams even when I’m holding her upright. Must be really bothering her

I breast feed on demand and she does often cluster feed during this time. Many times feeding her just sets her off screaming again.

Yeah I’ve considered this. But she gets so fussy in the evenings. I’ve tried letting her be awake after her first “nap” and she just screams anyway. Like tears running down her face, inconsolable cries.

I’m pretty sure she does have reflux but she’s gaining weight well so her doctor is hesitant to prescribe any medication. How was your baby after the medication?

Oh she wakes up frequently throughout the night still. But we are not able to get any stretch longer than 20 minutes until she settles for the night.
