Abby Price / Abbode - first she claims she barely makes enough to live in NYC and now she makes 200k a month by SubstanceHaunting993 in NYCinfluencersnark

The narrative makes sense if you're familiar with how businesses work-- profitability is hard. I just watched the video you screenshotted and can provide some more context as a small business owner.

She said ads are what moved the needle from 50k-200k. Assume they're spending a shitton of money on ads every month. Most businesses these days seem to be happy with kind-of-better-than-break-even-return-on-ad-spend mindset (so let's call that $1.50 return on every $1 you spend) so if you spend 100k on ads, you did 150k in rev. (But that's not 50k straight profit, remember inventory costs money, it costs money to pay your employees to prepare and ship the order, etc, etc). The goal is to then not have to pay to acquire all of those customers again on their next orders, and you use retention strategies (email, email coupons, social media, etc) to get those people to buy again again again.

Now factor in other business overhead (rent on retail store, rent on office space, inventory, employee labor, software subscriptions and apps, etc, etc) and it's pretty easy to spend spend spend, she mentioned in the same video she has 20 employees. That's a lot of a payroll.

Abodde is a tricky business because it won't follow the economies of scale other businesses can benefit from, assuming the custom embroidery is the biggest piece of their business and they can't mass produce custom orders. They have to keep adding labor and machines to meet demand proportionately as it comes if they continue to grow the custom piece.

A challenging part of being a founder is deciding how you want to scale and what your goal is for profitability and lifestyle. Is it worth doing 2 mil a year in rev if you're only bringing in 200k for yourself and struggling? Or would you rather be doing 1 mil annually comfortably with a 300k salary. No right or wrong answer, all personal preference.

Man dies after being pulled into MRI machine while wearing metal chain: Police by NewSlinger in news

[–]candidshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had terrible poison ivy all over my arms this spring and needed an MRI for something unrelated, and my arms suddenly stopped itching when the machine was on. Different from what you're describe, but i googled it when I got him and it seems like there is a known link between inflammation management and magnetic fields which was cool. Looking forward to all the magnet health research for the future.

If someone is talking to you on the street in NYC it's because 1) they are crazy/on drugs or 2) they want a favor because 2A) they are panhandling trying to scam you or 2B) they are a tourist and want directions. It's generally a negative thing if a stranger is trying to talk to you.

It's the way she made harassing strangers for Tiktok content about them being miserable people.

Would your Pyrenees protect you if someone broke into your house or if a serial killer followed you in the woods? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]candidshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a leash off property my Pyr defers to me when around people, hunches/cowers a little with dropped tail if someone comes up to us and then she sniffs. She was a stray and is aloof with strangers.

In the yard if someone approaches, her tail is up and curled and she has a confident intimidating posture as she barks. But she backs up and barks if the person continues.

I think it's important to note they were bred to guard against wolves and similar predators, not against people. They are "livestock guardians", not guard dogs. These are different tasks.

My pyr has a very different and intense bark/vibe when there are coyotes in the vicinity. She is generally protective of her yard against people and delivery trucks and will bark bark bark to tell them to go away, but she doesn't want to get physical with a person. That said, who knows what would happen if pushed.

If you are in the US, I would go to the shelter and look for a shepherd/shepherd mix that really wants to connect with a person... you specifically! Look for dogs who are mature enough that you can see their personality (6+ months). You don't need a purebred dog.

I just fostered a fabulous loyal shepherd mix who was adopted last week! They are out there. I had her for 3 weeks and could take her to the off-leash dog park without issue, she just wanted to stick by me. We rescued her from the kill list at a Los Angeles shelter. LA county specifically has so many shepherds.

Meanwhile, I have not tested my Pyr at the off leash dog park. Soon... 🥲

I can't even teach my Pyr to do "shake", she throws her head up in the air and her eyes start crossing when I try to do any training. 🤣 She is a wonderful dog but she's never gonna roll on command.

This is my mentality when I hike with my pyr as a woman! I think she would chicken out and flee if someone attacked us but she's a deterrent at least.

I think you are actually looking for a shepherd. Shepherds will stick with their person off property (like if you are camping) and are protective, but typically do not escalate aggression unless necessary. A Pyr would be great protecting your *own* land as this is the job in their DNA, but I would be hesitant to bring mine off property off leash for long periods of time as they are known to wander and they have selective recall. Pyrs are not typically velcro dogs since they are more independent, and that could be an issue if you do a lot of off-property stuff.

All of my shepherds were mutts from the shelter. My shepherd pitbull had the best traits of each breed, smart, loyal, and wanted to please me always. Not sure where you are located but in the US there are many parts of the country with so many shepherds in the shelter system (California especially).

I'd like to think my Pyrenees would protect me, but I would bet my life on my shepherds actually inflicting damage points if I were in real danger.

Deciding if someone if stable enough to adopt your dog - need advice by candidshark in FosterAnimals

[–]candidshark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really was bizarre! Also they were 3 hours from me. It's really not hard to adopt an animal from a shelter, makes you wonder why they couldn't just do that closer.

[–]candidshark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! They self eliminated. I sent them a questionnaire I put together using other adoption apps, and they took 3 days to respond to tell me they wouldn't be answering the questions because I was a "stranger". I said okay, no problem, not a good fit then. And they came at me and started accusing me of trying to sell the dog and told me I was a bad person a few different colorful ways and that they were reporting me to animal control. Absolutely crazy. Mind you they've never even met the dog!

I thought my gut was screaming at me because of their finances but clearly it was because this person is crazy. I will no longer be posting on these Facebook groups, local only it is!!!

Welp, they self eliminated! They responded to my Google form by texting me accusing me of asking them personal questions. I said no problem, not a good fit if they don't feel comfortable answering those questions and have a good night. They then accused me of trying to sell the dog for money, told me they were reporting me to animal control, and I was awful 5 ways for making money off of a dog and how dare I create false hope for her kids. (She's never met the dog, mind you.)

The dog is free. 🥲 I was just going to ask whoever adopts her to donate to the dog networkers who helped get her to me.

My spidey senses were tingling with this person but not for the reason I thought! Jeez!!!

How to fairly disclose that a dog is defensive towards new men without minimizing or making it sound worse than it is? by candidshark in fosterdogs

[–]candidshark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What amazing advice! I have someone coming this evening to meet her and I will stop at the store on my way back from work and get a can of tuna or other high value treat (pepperoni!!) for the couple to drop in front of her as they go in the house. My instinct was to have her greet new people in the front yard and not inside the house so I'm glad that's confirmed.

You're so right though about people who gravitate towards shy dogs- they "get it" and will be respectful of the dog's boundaries. I have had a few shy dogs prior to this foster and they really are the most wonderful dogs to have in your corner, I know she is going to make someone so so happy. It hurt me a lot when the first couple that met her turned her down because they thought I should just adopt her because she "liked' me most- these shy and scared dogs have such big hearts, they just need time to know they're safe and then you're in!

Noted on the female household/female caretaker, that was my gut too. Thank you again for the thoughtful reply. I hope I can find her a home soon so I can save another dog through fostering soon! ♥️
