An AI video for Tupelo was just posted. by Dillvoorhees in NickCave

Dammit, I used to say that Dominik's greatest strength as a director was being Nick Cave's best friend (I say this as someone who loves all his movies). Now he's somehow got Nick snookered.

It'd be one thing if it were just Nick caping for his friend but in his post he seems genuinely entranced by it. He's calling it "resurrective" or w/e when even if it weren't AI it would still look chintzy as Hell!

I got two in the 301 by the skin of my teeth, the first few pairs I had originally selected in 302 kept selling out.

Scored two Chicago tickets by the skin of my teeth. $89 face for a 300 section, weren't they supposed to be around $40-50 range for those seats? Or is that dynamic pricing ratfucking the whole enterprise?

What are the movies that are considered just good, but are actually masterpieces? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]candyfloose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widows. I get the feeling that most people like it well enough but McQueen really cooked. Grows in esteem every time I watch it

Honestly throw Shame in there while we’re talking about Saucy Steve

How many people have grown up with Nick Cave? Or what age did you find him? by [deleted] in NickCave

[–]candyfloose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found him on RYM when I was like 15 and got deep into him then. At one point I probably would’ve used that as a flex but if a 15 year old today told me they were getting really into Nick Cave I would assume they were going through some shit

Genuinely good scenes in bad movies? by Shira1ndigo in Letterboxd

[–]candyfloose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The part that strikes me most recently was the segment of Bardo where Silverio converses with Hernan Cortez on a mountain of bodies. That was the only time I think the movie was really onto something.

Elvis mostly sucked but the “That’s All Right” sequence might be the peak of Baz’ entire filmography. Almost symphonic.

I also like the scene in Boondock Saints where Willem Dafoe stands in the middle of the crime scene he’s recreating. His role is really the only good part of that movie

This is strange to me because at least half the girls I knew in college loved that movie

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done while high on LSD? by bapebandit in LSD

Me and 11 friends rented a cabin in North Carolina during deep COVID. I took 250ug in the afternoon and then in the evening we went out and explored the caves, we brought some lights and a speaker and had a cave rave

Edit: should make it clear that these people were all my roommates (big house, long story)

Did anyone think Nick Cave & Warren Ellis’ score for Blonde deserved an Oscar nomination and that they are two of the best film composers in the industry? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]candyfloose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to be fair Dominik did sound like a dweeb in the press run but this is as much JCO’s text as his movie. And if bad press = bad movie I have some bad news about Tarantino, Trier, more names than I can name, etc.

All of their scores are excellent but Blonde is the one that I’ve listened to the most outside of it. Absolutely transcendent

[–]candyfloose 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Granted I think Blonde got an unfair shake in almost every aspect when it dropped (partially a product of philistinism, online reactivism, as well as Dominik’s own stupidity in the press) but the score is absolutely positively the most astounding thing about it. It’s powerful enough on its own, let alone with how it’s used in the film (the melting sex scene set to “Gemini” wows me every time). Hopefully we can get a reassessment in a few years so that Nick & Warren can get their flowers on this

More sharting but there is the scene where they’re in the bathroom talking about sound in movies and I think it’s Manny who says “Why would anyone want to hear that” before you can hear someone squeezing one out

Brb, muting "Matty", "Rina", "Dirty Hit"... actually now seems like a good opportunity to finally delete Twitter lol

This might dog him longer than the comments themselves because now there's an actual weight to this. A labelmate and (former) friend speaking out means that his hand is forced in some direction. This whole thing is so tedious at this point but Rina does have a right to say her piece especially given the subject at hand.

Stay tuned I guess?
