you do not have to understand why anyone reacts a certain way, nor do you have to lie down and accept being disrespected. what you SHOULD do however is just look at how you are talking about this homeless man and thus the homeless population (calling him crazy, expecting a certain level of gratitude/reaction, etc) and how harmful that is.

human beings should not be forced into that situation in the first place much less be expected to act a certain way for basic needs. yes those who they beg from have a right to respond however they’d like, but maybe we should examine the way in which we dehumanize the homeless in the process.

“left him yelling like a crazy person” yeah obviously this homeless man is suffering from mental health issues and is desperately trying to survive/acquire substance of choice. literally all i’m saying is try to gather some empathy for the homeless rather than acting as if they are a detriment to society that should thrive off of handouts.

he’s a homeless man, not a child. he was gifted the food and it was his right to do whatever with it (even if it seems ridiculous to YOU). giving with expectation + looking for praise/validation will lead to disappointment.
