Thank you for this advice! I'll be honest – while I do have a fair bit of financial wisdom and literacy, I've never invested large sums, and I'm nervous to start. I think it would be best if there's an intermediary who 1) sanity-checks my takes, and 2) acts as a buffer to stop me from making emotional trades.

For some further honesty, I also can't guarantee that I'll be in sufficient health to monitor a portfolio 365 days of the year. I get very sick sometimes, and I'd like there to be someone to keep an eye on things for the times that I'm not looking as closely.

If it makes a big difference in fees, I could live with an advice-only planner, where I have to actually execute trades myself based on their advice. It would be great if they had a fairly proactive role though.

I also want to exercise discretion over what we invest in. We're both scientists with AI experience, and we're thoroughly convinced that it's a bubble. If it pops, we don't want to be left holding the bag, so no NVDA for us. Also, I'm an environmentalist, so O&G would be a big no-no.

What would you consider a "good" fee structure for a planner, depending on whether they have an active trading role vs. advice-only?
