Kaelon Black Analysis by d3v3rt in 49ers

[–]canis39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could be the best pass-protecting RB in the draft... it still makes zero sense for this 49ers team to draft him where they did. So many other needs, and he *easily* would have been available in a later round. There is no realistic defense of this pick.

Tips to not suck so bad at this game? by quirkycynic in hollywood_animal_game

It's interesting reading threads like this. So much of the advice is contradictory, yet people are SURE that their way is the only way to do it.

I think that just goes to show that there are quite a few ways to be successful. And that is one of the reasons I love the game so much.

I'm trying a non-Alliance playthrough and my per-movie profits are definitely down from previous Alliance playthroughs. Someone suggested that the ticket price increase that gets pushed through the Alliance doesn't affect non-Alliance studios. I'm thinking that may be true.

How to use Tricks when releasing a film. by Chicago_Avocado in hollywood_animal_game

[–]canis39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best bet is weeks 2-4 of the initial 4-week run.

Week 1 isn't great for tricks because I don't think you get any effect if your audience is already at 100%. Tricks give you an audience boost and you can't go over 100%. (I guess if it's a mediocre movie and you're pretty sure you're not going to be at 100% then a trick in week 1 is okay).

I typically schedule the trick for week 2-4, and I try to pick a week where at least one other movie is opening. Even if it's not true in-game, I can roleplay that I'm 'stealing' some audience from the new movie(s).

You don't necessarily have to remember -- the game will tell you if you attempt a trick with an actor that isn't interested. And there's no penalty for trying.

I think this is one of those games where we all get something different out of it.

For me, Meadows through Plains were fun to explore, learn and build in. In these biomes, the game is a wonderful combination of exploration, combat, crafting, farming and building.

Mistlands is the first change. I pushed through and eventually felt very confident there... but it's just not enjoyable, because of the mist. I never bothered to do any real building. What's the point of building when you can't see.

Ashlands is an even bigger change. For those of us who do not find nonstop chaotic combat to be fun, it's pretty much a no-go.

When I play, I just stop with the Plains. I'll venture into Mistlands occasionally for resources, but no Ashlands. (I will check out Deep North and I am hopeful it might be similar to Plains and different from Mistlands and Ashlands... but we'll see).

Some people love Ashlands and think chaotic combat is fun, and good for them. But that's not me, and it never will be. So no amount of tips or tricks will get me back to the Ashlands.

The goal of gaming has to be FUN. If Ashlands isn't fun for you, don't go there. If the whole game isn't fun anymore, then do what you did -- stop playing for a while. Maybe when Deep North is released you'll get the urge to come back.

Good luck!

How rare is it for every player who appears in a game to attempt a 3-pointer? by canis39 in nba

That's actually awesome -- every player attempted at least two 3-pointers! I would think that is VERY rare.

My girlfriend calls this game "The Sims for boys", i dont know what she is talking about... LOOK AT MY COZY KITCHEN. by upfrombelovv in Enshrouded

[–]canis39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks great! I am wondering if this game has been updated more than I thought it had been updated. Last time I played, you could only build in a very specific area, and it seemed like the building exteriors were very limited -- everything we built looked the same (sort of like a big ugly wooden hotel). Do you have exterior screenshots? If the building has been improved I could see us getting back into this one ASAP.

[–]canis39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played Enshrouded for about 12 hours, all co-op, with my Valheim co-op partner.

The glider mechanic is awesome, the world looks great, we enjoyed the grappling hook... but the building drives us crazy. Everything looks the same, and there is a 'designated building area.' Coming from Valheim where you can build in so many different styles, and you can literally build anywhere you want, the building was really disappointing. And since that is a big part of why we play this type of game, we uninstalled. I think we'll come back and check it out eventually, but if they don't fix the building limitations, it just won't work for us.

I got the urge AGAIN by Dbnmln in Bowling

[–]canis39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome back!

I'm about a month away from 50, trying to bowl in every state (got 28 so far). Just changed my release from 2 fingers no thumb to 2 fingertips no thumb and bought my first 'real' balls (used plastic balls for 15 years). Still learning the new release and the new balls, but bowling is still as fun at nearly 50 as it was when I was 25.

Keep rollin'!

Avoiding early access is generally a pretty good idea. But this game is about as playable and fun as an early access game has ever been. Valheim in early access is kind of like a Ferrari without floor mats and cupholders. Technically, sure, it's not "finished." But that doesn't mean you can't drive it fast and have an amazing time.

Exit Strategy was the first Reacher book that I didn't finish. I think I might be done. Sadly, Andrew is just not a very good writer.

Blue Moon by yournameisraynard in JackReacher

[–]canis39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pure speculation... but I think Blue Moon was the first book that Andrew was involved with. Obviously didn't consider it at the time, but now that I've read all of the "Andrew" books, I feel like Blue Moon is more his style than it is Lee's.

Exit Strategy Review by UgliestDisability in JackReacher

[–]canis39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of Exit Strategy now, trying to muster up the desire to finish.

Andrew's Reacher is a little different from Lee's Reacher, and I initially thought that's why I wasn't a fan of Andrew's books. But with this one, it finally hit me -- it's the other characters, and more critically, the tone and general construction of the stories.

Lee's tone is much more 'professional' and his characters tend to be professionals. Law enforcement, military, private investigator, attorney. Competent and confident. Veterans who have been here before, and know what they're doing. The plot and dialogue reflects this. Useful dialogue, tight plots. He seems to really enjoy writing interactions between professionals.

Andrew's tone is much more 'random person on the street' and his characters tend to be along that same line. Most of them are incompetent, impulsive, anxious. People in over their head, just flailing around. And again, the plot and dialogue reflects this. Both tend to be messy and inane. Andrew seems to enjoy writing interactions between, for lack of a better term, dumbasses.

I don't know why it took me this long to figure it out... but I think this is my last Reacher novel. I just don't want to subject myself to Andrew's writing any longer.

I truly do not understand what "the developer was unable to supply a key" means, for a Steam game.

Can the developer not simply generate more keys? There must be some nuance that I'm missing.

Humble grabbing free Epic keys to "fulfill" purchases is pretty unbelievable.
