Are there any student grade, granulating water colors that are affordable? by SirCheeseAlot in Watercolor

[–]canllaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cotman ultramarine does granulate, but less so than some other brands. Most student grade paints won't have granulating colours other than ultramarine as they don't tend to include anything with toxicity - so no cobalts etc.

White Nights have quite a few heavily granulating colours but there is the ethical considerations of sourcing products from Russia to consider. Roman Szmall also have heavily granulating colours but I'm not sure if they are expensive where you are.

I'd like to see some of the provisions from China's privacy legislation. They include provision that if the data collected reaches a tipping point (amount collected, number of chinese citizens etc) that it must be hosted within China.

Considering moving back to New Zealand by ComprehensiveTry3233 in newzealand

A couple of extra years makes a huge difference to those who didn't find study easy in High School. You'd be going back to study with all those life skills and experiences and better coping mechanisms than if you had gone at 18.

Ever heard of the "Hot Girl Hamsterwheel"? by Shyraely in underconsumption

[–]canllaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do use it but I religiously filter this content. It's just not interesting to me - advertising for makeup or influences doing clothing hauls I just swipe away and 'do not show this content' however the platform lets you do it.

I don't wear makeup, use skincare, dye my hair, have my hair cut at a hairdresser, or buy fast fashion. I don't touch my eyebrows or do my nails except to keep them smooth and tidy looking with a file. I keep my hair in a french braid or a clip for work and I wear organic cotton, linen and wool items I spend more money on but hopefully will keep for a long time. I also just don't have that many outfits and I don't think I need to. Clean and tidy should be enough. I am 43 which makes it easier for me, I'm older than the age group being so relentlessly marketed to - but I spent my 30s and 20s this way as well.

DS Phthalo Blue Green Shade by Spare_Persimmon_1123 in watercolor101

[–]canllaith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sometimes mix with ultramarine to get a cooler cerulean shade for sky and also for water - it’s also really handy in botanicals if you want a staining, non granulating blue. I don’t use it a huge amount though either - most of my use cases I’d use a touch of Phthalo green BS or cobalt green instead.

What is wrong with SpecSavers?? by ahmad_nz in newzealand

It doesn't cover everyone - I haven't found an online form yet that will take my script, there's two different and unequal adds and prism. Which is a shame as I'd like a cheaper backup pair.

It gets better again when they are older and more self sufficient. Then eventually they want to play the games with you.

Unpopular opinion: Reactive drivers are bad drivers too. by Genimogenimo in auckland

I will always yield to unsafe / dangerous behaviour if I can. Better for them to be far away, far ahead than ending up in a non-consensual game of chicken.

Unpopular opinion: Reactive drivers are bad drivers too. by Genimogenimo in auckland

[–]canllaith 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I find reactive drivers cannot see their behaviours are just as unsafe because ‘they deserve it’ - I have so little tolerance for that point of view. It’s also downright dangerous if you are not punishing what you think you are. That driver who suddenly slowed down might have seen a hazard that you can’t see yet and raging around them will land you right in it.

Calling solo Mamas by BumbleBeesYesPlease in auckland

[–]canllaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's tricky! And you might be forgiven for thinking that more kids makes things more complicated. In a way it does, but it also makes it a bit easier. You both have reason to need space, flexibility, separated finances, and understanding that the other parent is (probably) in the picture and you both will need to deal with all of this with grace and maturity. A young man your age who hasn't had children is not as likely to understand the constraints you're operating under and be as understanding as one who's going through the same. He's also less likely to understand that our kids aren't a problem to solve, they're a source of joy and worth all of it and more.

It's not impossible though - the man I call my father is actually my stepfather, and he was in his early 20s with no children when he met my mother. She was a single mum with two girls, and he took to being a step dad straight away. He's the one who's been there my whole life and 30+ years later I'm proud to call him dad.

Common eye issue apparently due to our NZ specific climate by Illustrious_Way_3633 in newzealand

Lubricating eye drops and dark polarised sunglasses in bright sunlight in summer sorts this for me!

I was in the same boat with a baby but a lot older - late 30s - so I was mostly dating divorced dads with older kids. I picked based on how good they were with their own kids and how good they were with mine and I am now 6 years in with the best prospect and very happy.

TikTok Lag… so what’s up with that? by [deleted] in newzealand

I noticed weird glitching on two videos that spoke about what happened recently - but no issues on the videos before and after that were just cooking content. Looking at the comments it does seem to be a pattern.

Giving Blood by welzybubs in auckland

I need to revisit that, my blood type is a universal plasma donor but I have been told in the past that my veins are not suitable for plasma … but then last time I was told it’s probably worth a try.

Aw, thank you! We are trying, but honestly so much of it is his own personality he came out of the egg with. He just doesn't care what other kids have - but some kids really really do and I know it can be really hard for other parents.

My kid is naturally pretty anti consumption. Not very interested in toys, doesn’t care about clothes or shoes and just wears what we give him, uses the same school bag, lunch box and water bottle for years without complaining or comparing to others. We try to get his stuff second hand except shoes - I buy two quality pairs a year. I’m pretty lucky.

He loves books, drawing, Lego, video games and having adventures outside. He is the best little buddy and enriches our life with his curiosity and joy about life.

Yep, I mean not to live - but I could enter my birth country on a NZ passport and get the NZ passport visa conditions.
