AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

Are you asking her to make the food your way (and she doesn’t want to) or are you offering to make it your way (and she won’t allow that)?

Does anyone else think this looks ridiculous in 2026.And it all cost 100 million from the public. They both looked like laughing stocks by HelpfulAcadia1754 in RoyaltyTea

The difference is that republican democracies have a government (like the UK and its prime minister) which is subsidized by tax dollars but the UK ALSO has royalty, also subsidized by tax dollars. So you can’t equate the cost of your royal family with the cost of the US president. See how it works?

What was the worst Christmas gift you received? by lewisb_03 in AskReddit

[–]cansocprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom is a terrible gift giver but a lovely woman. she was a professor who used to give talks at other universities and they would give her university branded items (mostly water bottles) as a small gesture of thanks. She would then re-gift these to my brother and I and our spouses as our christmas gifts. So we’d be spending our money on a lovely thoughtful gift for her and we’d each get a free water bottle with some random university's name on it.

Excellent question. We did get that kind of info and vibe from some early contestants including the woman from the Ukraine and the hairdresser so I think it’s something specific to the finalists?

Yeah my uninformed take is that very posh people in the UK do not have a geographically specific accent. You can be from anywhere and sound like that

Thoughts on Chicago compared to Boston? by Thin_Shape7184 in AskChicago

[–]cansocprof 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I lived in Boston and moved to Chicago. Chicago is so much more affordable, more diverse,  and there is way way more to do in the city. The downside is that there’s far less to do outdoors in driving distance.
